Warning! Spoilers ahead for Bounty Hunters #4

Boba Fett is one of the most notorious bounty hunters in the Star Wars galaxy. When he takes on a job, his employers can expect success and a great return on their investment. Targets will be eliminated or captured, and bounties will be delivered, which is exactly what happens when Fett agrees to work for both Jabba the Hutt and the Darth Vader in The Empire Strikes Back, tracking down Han Solo and freezing him in carbonite on Cloud City for easy delivery. However, before Boba Fett delivers Han to Jabba on Tatooine, there's something that he has to do first: taking on a hunt that can't wait.

In the past, Boba Fett was once a part of a crew of bounty hunters, working a job to eliminate a target for a client belonging powerful crime syndicate. Some of the hunters in the crew were other famous rogues such as Bossk, who has a long history with Boba, as well as Beilert Valance, led by the notorious Nakano Lash. However, something hugely unexpected happened: Lash killed their client, the heir to the crime syndicate, forcing all of the hunters to flee for their lives due to her betrayal.

Now, years later, Fett gets wind of Lash's whereabouts, as do his other former partners. All of them want to find Lash and earn the seriously large bounty on her head (though Valance might just be seeking a reason for why his mentor betrayed them and more importantly, him). However, when Fett hears about the bounty, he decides to take the job pro bono, deciding to go after Lash purely out of revenge. Not only that, but it's a detour from his current job, as he's currently got Solo still in his cargo hold.

In Bounty Hunters #4written by Ethan Sacks and drawn by Paolo Villanelli, Boba has finally caught up to Lash and Valance, who had found her just before he did. It seems as though Valance got the reason he was looking for as to why Lash betrayed them all: their target was a woman from a rival syndicate who was pregnant with their client's child. The client wanted her dead so as not to besmirch his own name and lose his power as the heir to his own syndicate. Lash, deciding to do the right thing for once, killed the client just before he was going to kill the woman. Lash then got the woman out of there, and they fled the system, with her dying in childbirth a few weeks later. Since that time, Lash has been taking care of the child, the heir to both crime syndicates, who could potentially unite them both and end their years-long war.

It seems as though Valance might be satisfied with her answer, and may even find it honorable enough to not want her dead. However, he doesn't get long to respond to Lash's tale, as the issue ends with Valance and Lash face to face with Fett himself, who probably could care less about why he was betrayed. His reputation on that job was tainted, in however small a fashion, and he can't abide that in the slightest. Fans will have to wait and see if Fett's bid for revenge is successful when Star Wars: Bounty Hunters continues next month.
