DC's upcoming Blue Beetle movie might star Cobra Kai's Xolo Maridueña. There has been no shortage of DC projects rumored to be in the works in recent years as Warner Bros. and DC Films attempt to build the DC Extended Universe up. While some of these projects have materialized, other notable ideas like New Gods and Cyborg have been completely abandoned. These older projects falling by the wayside have led to other more recent developing projects to pick up steam and take priority, though.

One of these fast-moving projects is a Blue Beetle solo movie, which will feature the Latino teenager Jaime Reyes. It was previously announced that Charm City Kings director, Angel Manuel Soto, is directing the movie. Details on DC's plans for Blue Beetle later revealed that the movie was likely heading to HBO Max as an original DC film for the young streaming service. This has left fans wondering who will take on the lead role of Blue Beetle, though. There have been plenty of young and popular Latino actors to rise to the top of fans' wishlists, but now the clear favorite has seemingly taken a step closer to landing the coveted role.

According to a report from The Wrap, Xolo Maridueña is in talks with WB and DC to play Jaime Reyes in Blue Beetle. Maridueña is a recent breakout star of the Karate Kid sequel series, Cobra Kai, where he plays one of the lead roles as Miguel Diaz. A deal for him to star in Blue Beetle is not finalized, but this report indicates that the young actor is on the verge of playing the fan-favorite DC hero.

Jaime Reyes is the third version of Blue Beetle in DC's comic history, with Dan Garrett being the first and Ted Kord immediately preceding Reyes. The Blue Beetle is powered by a living weapon known as a Scarab, which latches itself onto a host body. While the Scarab can act on its own at times, Jaime can also control its vast abilities: metamorphosis, flight, weaponry, and more. Jaime's version of Blue Beetle is commonly associated with the Teen Titans, and he is also mentored by Ted Kord in some iterations of the comics.

Should Xolo Maridueña officially join Blue Beetle as Jaime Reyes, it will be a piece of casting that will excite both fans and Maridueña himself. He has made it quite clear on social media that he would love a chance to play Blue Beetle in the DCEU, and now it appears that he might get that opportunity. Maridueña should be a great addition to the DCEU as Blue Beetle given what he's shown as an actor on Cobra Kai, with the show's popularity also sure to drive plenty of interest in his future projects. With Blue Beetle expected to begin filming in early 2022, hopefully this doesn't affect Maridueña's ability to be in Cobra Kai or the show's future overall.
