Warning! Spoilers ahead for Dandadan chapter 27!

Dandadan, Shonen Jump's new manga, by mangaka Yukinobu Tatsu features the so-called Turbo Granny, a spirit with perverted tendencies that inhabits a maneki-neko much like Bleach's lecherous Modified Soul named Kon who lives in a stuffed lion.

The Turbo Granny plays a much more pivotal role in Dandadan than anything Bleach ever allowed for Kon. She is the spirit who originally curses one of the series' main protagonists Ken Okarun by gaining control of his body. Originally, the psychokinetic Momo Ayase used her newfound abilities to subdue Turbo Granny's hold on Okarun before attempting to transfer Turbo Granny into a maneki-neko. But she only succeeds in trapping the spirit's consciousness inside the statue, leaving everything else inside of Okarun. From that moment on, the Turbo Granny adopts a similar role as Kon did in Bleach, serving as the comedy relief and performing random acts that don't really impact the plot. All of this is amplified by the ridiculousness and cuteness of a maneki-neko running around. Meanwhile, Kon might not be a supernatural creature, but he isn't a human. He's an artificial soul that possesses an enhanced version of human physiology.

The Turbo Granny also says and partakes in lewd activities similar to Kon, but with a twist. Her hold on Okarun is contingent on her stealing his manhood, and when she first meets Okarun, she invites him to perform an indecent act on her so that she may return the favor. Of course, this isn't the Turbo Granny lusting over Okarun. She's just an inappropriate old spirit who uses the façade of lust to justify stealing his manhood so that she can control him. This is unlike Kon who is a stereotypical pervert who especially lusts after what he refers to as the "Valley of the Gods," which is an obvious sexual innuendo.

The actions of Kon and the Turbo Granny usually don't impact the main storyline at all. Once getting trapped inside the maneki-neko, the Turbo Granny in Dandadan becomes an innocuous character who performs random acts throughout the manga. When Momo and Okarun deal with rumors at school, Turbo Granny decides to just saunter off and explore the campus since she hasn't been on school grounds for a while. Other times she's just eating a sandwich during important conversations, sleeping during fights, or just relaxing on the ground while Momo and Okarun try to resuscitate a dying person.

Kon and Turbo Granny are powerful lifeforms that Shonen Jump's Bleach and Dandadan both portray satirically by having them inhabit adorable inanimate objects. Like Kon, the Turbo Granny says and performs some problematic things, but her intentions are quite different, as they are necessary to perform a curse. Meanwhile, Kon is just straight-up perverted and not only actively engages in sexual harassment but makes unwanted physical contact. Additionally, Turbo Granny has proven to have a moral conscience and to care for those who have been victimized in horrendous ways despite her use of inappropriate and obscene. Before cursing Okagun, she frequented a tunnel where the restless souls of girls who were assaulted and killed haunt to comfort them. She is essentially trying to hide her decency by saying lewd comments without actually acting on them. Although both characters are somewhat inconsequential as well, Turbo Granny actually serves as an important underlining force, for she's the reason why the main character Okarun has powers in the first place in Dandadan. Meanwhile, Kon doesn't really affect Bleach in any way except whenever he occasionally takes charge of Ichigo's human body when he becomes a Soul Candy pill.
