Would Blade have made a difference in the fight against Thanos if he had showed up in Avengers: Endgame? Mahershala Ali’s MCU character, who has a reputation as one of Marvel’s deadliest and most efficient killers, won’t get his own MCU movie until 2023 at the earliest, which will be years after Thanos’ defeat.

Blade, aka Eric Brooks, will most likely never meet the Mad Titan on the big or small screen since the latter has already been killed off, but a hypothetical situation revolving around the two of them is certainly still an interesting one. How powerful Blade will be in comparison to the MCU’s established heroes is one of many questions that fans have about the iconic vampire slayer. The only hint that Marvel has offered thus far was a line in Loki episode 4, where Mobius (Owen Wilson) noted that the TVA has captured Kree, Titans, and vampires. Not only did this line confirm the existence of vampires in the MCU (thus setting up Blade), it also implied that vampires are formidable opponents. Mobius mentioning vampires in the same breath as Thanos’ race may say something about what both they and Blade are capable of in the MCU.

Blade, a half-vampire in the comics, doesn’t naturally share the majority of vampire abilities, but is skilled and resourceful enough to kill the best of them. He would later also gain physical capabilities similar to that of Marvel's classic vampires, as he obtained these powers after being bitten by Morbius, a pseudo-vampire created by science. Regardless of whether it uses a version of his Morbius-given powers, the MCU’s Blade will have to be a force to be reckoned with if he can take down super-strong supernatural beings like vampires. But standing up to a warrior as powerful as Thanos is another matter entirely. The Mad Titan, who has wrecked characters as strong as Thor and Hulk in one-on-one combat, is seemingly on a whole other level to Eric Brooks.

Blade shouldn’t be taken lightly as a fighter of course, as he is a highly competent warrior with a number of tools in his arsenal. The problem is that he simply doesn’t have the means to kill a Thanos-level character, much less Thanos himself. A different MCU swordsman, Black Knight (Kit Harrington), might be able to pull off such a kill, but that’s only because he carries the Ebony Blade, a weapon that can cut through nearly anything in the universe. Blade’s sword, which is made out of titanium, can’t compare to a magically enchanted weapon forged from a mysterious meteorite. As made clear by Thor’s efforts to get Stormbreaker, it takes a weapon of tremendous power for its wielder to have a chance at taking him down, and unfortunately, Blade doesn’t have access to anything of a cosmic nature.

Even if the MCU did arm Blade with a weapon like that, it’s hard to imagine it being enough. Blade has been shown to have super strength in the comics, but his power is on a significantly smaller scale when being compared to Marvel heavyweights like Thor, Hulk, Namor the Sub-Mariner, and Captain Marvel. Blade does have the potential to kill enemies who have powers beyond his, but Thanos may be a bit too strong. That being said, Blade could still have been a valuable asset to the team in Avengers: Endgame by using his swordsmanship to vanquish legions of Thanos’ minions.
