Original Blade star Stephen Dorff doesn’t think he will return for Marvel’s reboot. Portrayed by Wesley Snipes, the half-human, half-vampire superhero made his cinematic debut in 1998 in Blade, which was followed by a sequel in 2002, Blade II, and the trilogy culminated in 2004 with Blade: Trinity. After Marvel Studios acquired the rights to the character, Kevin Feige announced a Blade reboot was in the works with Mahershala Ali set to play the titular character.

Since then, the project has taken a few other major steps forward as Stacy Osei-Kuffour, one of the writers behind HBO’s Watchmen series, was named Blade’s head scribe. The reboot also recently found its director in Bassam Tariq, the visionary behind 2020’s Mogul Mowgli starring Riz Ahmed. Since it was announced two years ago, there haven’t been any other casting announcements other than Ali in the lead role, but there is plenty of time between now and when Blade is expected to begin filming in a year for casting news to surface.

One actor who likely won’t be returning for Marvel’s reboot is Stephen Dorff, who played the vampire Deacon Frost in the original 1998 Blade movie. Recently accosted by TMZ about controversial comments regarding Black Widow, Dorff was asked about “Marvel fatigue,” but he instead pivoted the conversation to Mahershala Ali’s Blade, which he seems to be looking forward to. When asked if he would be making an appearance in Marvel’s reboot, Dorff shrugged off the possibility, saying, “Oh I don’t think so, but you know, that was a long time ago.”

Dorff made headlines recently for his incendiary comments on Marvel’s latest effort, Black Widow, saying that the film “looks like garbage” and that he’s “embarrassed for Scarlett.” The actor has since admitted he hasn’t seen the film and walked back those controversial comments. Dorff also wished Mahershala Ali the best in remaking Blade. The two starred together in season 3 of HBO’s gritty anthology series True Detective.

As Blade’s cast comes together over the next year, it will be interesting to see if any actors from the original trilogy return for Marvel’s reboot. Kris Kristofferson appeared in all three installments as Blade’s father figure and mentor, Abraham Whistler, and could be one actor that is eyed for a return. However, Marvel will likely opt for an entirely new cast to avoid any associations with the previous Blade adaptation, which was commercially successful but not popular among critics.
