Blade is the deadliest vampire hunter in the Marvel Universe, but his daughter Bloodline may prove to be even deadlier. Set to make her solo debut in the upcoming Bloodline: Daughter of Blade miniseries, the teen vampire hunter will struggle to balance schoolwork with newfound superpowers in her new series.

When he first appeared in Tomb of Dracula #10, Blade was very different from the Daywalker we know today. For one thing, he wasn’t yet the “Daywalker”... although his mother was bitten by a vampire while she was pregnant with him, this initially didn’t result in him being a half-human/half-vampire hybrid. Instead, this turn of events only made Blade immune to vampirism. Blade’s modern depiction as a black leather-clad vampire hunter with various tricked out gadgets is also quite the departure from the original Blade in Tomb of Dracula, who wore a green jacket and only used small wooden knives. These changes were later added after the popularity of the Wesley Snipes movies, which updated Blade significantly.

Now, Blade gets another update with the addition of his teenage daughter Brielle, who looks to continue in the family line of work. Brielle recently discovered she was Blade’s daughter after the vampiric powers she inherited from her father manifested. From the creative team of Danny Lore and Karen S. Darboe, Bloodline: Daughter of Blade will pick up Brielle’s story after the character made her debut earlier this year in Free Comic Book Day: Avengers/X-Men #1. A new cover for the series was recently revealed, showing Blade’s daughter taking up her father’s sword in the never-ending battle against the children of the night. It’s the perfect time for Bloodline to make her debut, with Blade currently appearing in the Midnight Suns comic book and upcoming video game. Also, the mix of teenage melodrama and vampire hunting action worked wonders in properties like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, so fans can only hope that Marvel’s new series can reach such lofty heights. The added complication of Bloodline sharing her father’s vampiric powers will also provide an interesting dramatic angle, and whether or not Blade reunites with his estranged daughter will leave fans waiting in breathless anticipation.

One of my earliest Marvel memories is watching Blade with my father, and being in awe of how intensely cool the Daywalker is,” said Lore. “Over the years I’ve only grown to love Blade even more. Brielle ‘Bloodline’ Brooks is literally the child of a dual legacy in that way: both Blade’s long history, and my personal comic legacy. When you guys join us on this journey, I hope you find a part of yourself in Brielle’s story.”

Living with her mother Saffron Caulder in Atlanta, Brielle is poised to become a major character in the dark side of the Marvel Universe. With Blade set to appear in a new feature film, hopefully his daughter Bloodline won’t be far behind.
