BLACKPINK is a K-pop group that's have achieved significant global success since first forming in 2016. The South Korean girl group, consisting of Jisoo, Jennie, Rose, and Lisa, have had multiple number one hits in South Korea and had a huge breakthrough with their song 'Kill This Love' placing number 41 on the Hot 100. The group teamed up with Lady Gaga's new album 'Chromatica', where their collaboration 'Sour Candy' debuted earlier this week. The song has been a massive hit for both BLACKPINK and Lady Gaga, as Forbes reports it shattered records on YouTube, becoming the biggest debut for an all-female collaboration with nearly 22 million views in its first 24 hours. It currently has more than 43 million views as of the writing of this post.
Artist Carlos GZZ (@CarlosGZZ003 on Instagram) has shared a handful of incredible fan illustrations for Lady Gaga's new album, including a Sailor Moon-themed piece featuring BLACKPINK. The art features the K-Pop group in Sailor Moon-esque costumes while holding different staffs. Each member is wearing different colors and each has their own planetary-like symbol on their forehead. Lady Gaga stands behind them draped in red. It's a stunning image that's heightened by the aesthetic of Sailor Moon.
The song has become an immediate, massive hit partly because BLACKPINK and Lady Gaga have huge fanbases that love to share their work and make fan art inspired by them. In this case, the Sailor Moon-vibes definitely fits with BLACKPINK and Lady Gaga. It's a creative piece of art that echoes both pop music and the world of anime.
