Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 sees the Call of Duty franchise attempting to break into the battle royale market dominated by Fortnite, and as such lots of eyes have been on the game's Blackout mode. After all, Activision's shooter series is still the name to beat when it comes to the multiplayer FPS world in terms of player numbers, so many are intrigued to see whether it can take on this new challenge.

However, getting to play the game mode before release has proved to be a little tricky so far. The beta for Blackout has been PS4 only, and then mainly available to those who have preordered the game. However, with a further beta for the mode coming tomorrow for Xbox One and PC preorder customers, there's soon a chance for everyone to see the game - providing they've preordered.

An open beta for Blackout on PC is on its way this weekend, but there's actually a way for PC users who haven't preordered the title to get their hands on the game a day early. That's because Activision has made a deal with Twitch where those interested gamers who log on to the platform to watch the streams of some of the biggest Twitch names will also receive early access to the closed PC beta which starts at 10 am PT tomorrow.

Here's what is required to get hold of the beta early:

  • Ensure you have already signed up to Twitch, as well as making sure you have a Blizzard account
  • Link the Twitch and Blizzard accounts together, as outlined in Twitch's connections page
  • Login to Twitch between 10 am PT and 2 pm PT and watch one of the following steams: Ninja, Shroud, TimTheTatman, and Summit1G. The streams need to be watched for at least one hour
  • Following watching the stream, you will then get an access code to get into the beta.

All in all, it's a quick way for gamers to get the chance to check out the game one day early. It's a setup that's beneficial for all involved, as Activision gets more beta players, Twitch gets more viewers who may not have checked out the streaming service, and those major Twitch streamers involved likely get even more viewers for the day - albeit ones who may not stick around beyond the Blackout beta sign-up session.

It will be interesting to see what the feeling is about Blackout following this beta. So far, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's battle royale mode seems impressive, with a well-received gameplay reveal alongside news that the game mode will support more players than Battlefield V's Firestorm mode. Whether it lives up to fan expectations will be something that is discovered soon.
