With a new enemy targeting Raymond “Red” Reddington (James Spader) and two agents leaving the task force, expectations are high for The Blacklist season 10. Beginning in September 2013, NBC and Sony’s series features Red helping the FBI take down dangerous criminals on his “blacklist” to earn immunity from prosecution for his own high-profile criminal acts. Years later, the show is still going strong, with its ninth season ending this past spring.

In The Blacklist season 9, it’s revealed that Marvin Gerard (Fisher Stevens), Red’s trusted advisor, is responsible for Liz’s tragic death. Returning to the series from season 1, Wujing (Chin Han) crosses paths with Marvin in prison, who informs Wujing that he was imprisoned because of Red. Marvin also provides Wujing with a list of other Blacklisters Red has helped the FBI put away.

Following season 9, many are wondering if another season is on the horizon. Although its average viewership for season 9 was 4.77 million (a fraction of season 1’s 14.95 million), The Blacklist’s positive reviews and continued support have paid off; a new season is on the way. Here’s everything we know about The Blacklist season 10.

On February 22nd, 2022, James Spader confirmed The Blacklist was renewed for season 10. It is expected that James Spader, Diego Klattenhoff, Hisham Tawfiq, Harry Lennix and John Eisendrath will all be returning for The Blacklist season 10. A new character, Saya Malik, will be added to the show, though the role has yet to be cast (via TVLine). Saya is reportedly an MI6 intelligence officer and the daughter of Parminder Nagra’s Meera Malik, an original member of Red’s task force who was killed by an assassin in the season 1 finale. Saya will likely fill one of the two task force vacancies created by Amir Arison and Laura Sohn’s respective characters Aram Mojtabai and Alina Park departing from the show, similar to when Agent Samar Navabi’s left after season 6. However, both characters are still alive, leaving the door open for a cameo in season 10, or possibly a permanent return in future seasons if the show is renewed again.

The Blacklist Season 10 Story: What Season 9 Set Up

Following the events of season 9, Wujing is out for vengeance. With the list of other Blacklisters at his disposal, it is likely next season will heavily feature Wujing recruiting other criminals Red helped the FBI put away in order to take him down. This means that Red, who has helped hunt criminals in the previous seasons, will now experience what it’s like to be the prey. With Siya expected to join the now short-handed task force, she may attempt to uncover answers regarding Meera’s season 1 death.

The series’ location manager Tom Scutro shared the cast and crew are “thrilled to be returning for a tenth season, which [will] start filming after Labor Day,” (via Westchester County Tourism & Film). This year, Labor Day falls on September 5th, so it’s expected season 10 will begin filming in the fall. As the episodes generally film and are released consecutively, season 10 will likely begin airing in the mid-season, sometime between September and October. This also follows the pattern of preceding seasons. The Blacklist season 10 will be available to stream on Netflix after all the episodes have aired on NBC.
