O-T Fagbenle wants his Black Widow character, Rick Mason, to meet Deadpool in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Following Natasha Romanoff Aka Black Widow’s (Scarlett Johansson) sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame, her first (and last) solo outing takes place between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. Black Widow—which is available now in theaters and on Disney+ Premier Access—introduces a slew of new characters to the MCU by exploring Natasha’s past.

Early on in the film, Natasha is on the run from Thaddeus Ross due to violating the Sokovia Accords. At a safe house in Norway, she reunites with Richard “Rick” Mason (Fagbenle), a former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and independent contractor who provides Natasha with amenities (among other things). Rick and Natasha have fun banter in Black Widow, which most likely sets this endearing expert of espionage up to appear in future MCU installments.

In an interview with Comicbook, Fagbenle was asked where he would like Rick Mason to show up next; in particular, what Marvel character would he want to work with. After revealing how great in thinks Rick would do in Wakanda, Fagbenle mentioned Ryan Reynolds’ Merc with a Mouth. Read what he had to say below:

"I mean, listen, there are a lot. I think there's no doubt the who Black Panther community. I think Mason could do great work there...My number one [character] might be Deadpool. I think Deadpool could probably do with a bit of help."

Korg and Deadpool react to Free Guy trailer

Disney famously bought Fox back in 2019, bringing the Fantastic Four, X-Men, and Deadpool under the control of Marvel Studios. As confirmed by Kevin Feige and company, the question isn’t a matter of “if” these characters will show up in the MCU but “when.” Deadpool and Deadpool 2 were a huge critical and commercial success thanks in large part to Reynolds’ irreverent performance as Wade Wilson/Deadpool/the Merc with a Mouth. Despite various delays, Deadpool 3 is currently in production and is expected to be the first R-rated entry in the MCU—which was further teased by a recent Free Guy promotional video featuring the Thor franchise’s Korg and Deadpool. Given the relationship between Rick and Natasha in Black Widow, it’s not hard to imagine Deadpool begrudgingly working (with Rick appalled by Deadpool's behavior).

At the end of Black Widow, Rick gives a blonde-haired Natasha the Quinjet she and the rest of the Secret Avengers use in Avengers: Infinity War. The film’s post-credits scene sees Valentina Allegra de Fontaine ambush Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) at Natasha’s grave to give the next assignment: Clint Barton/Hawkeye. Pugh has is set to appear in Disney+’s Hawkeye series. If Fagbenle shows back up in the MCU anytime soon, it’ll most likely be in a series like Hawkeye. Similar to how WandaVision made previous-minor characters like Jimmy Woo (Randall Park) and Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings) major stars, Fagbenle’s profile could continue to grow exponentially on the small screen.
