Black Widow's trailer reveals the film's subtle link to Avengers: Infinity War. Directed by Cate Shortland, Marvel Studios' first entry in its Phase 4 slate gives Scarlett Johansson's Natasha Romanoff her long-overdue standalone film. Debuting in 2010's Iron Man 2, the former Russian spy-turned-hero had been a staple figure in the MCU until her tragic death in Avengers: Endgame.

Despite her status in the universe, Black Widow works around that by setting the film primarily in the two years between Captain America: Civil War and Infinity War. Initially, it was assumed that Nat spent that time operating underground with Captain America (Chris Evans) and Falcon (Anthony Mackie) as they were deemed fugitives for not signing on the Sokovia Accords. However, the upcoming movie will reveal what other matters Widow attended to. And based on Black Widow's first trailer, it appears that she went home for a little reunion with the introduction of her supposed family - David Harbour's Alexei Shoskatov/Red Guardian, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, and Rachel Weisz's Melina.

During the family's get-together at the diner table in the Black Widow trailer, everyone appears to be wearing their respective battle suits - Melina with her own Black Widow costume, Alexei with his Red Guardian ensemble complete with the cowl, and Nat with her white jumpsuit. Yelena's garb, however, is particularly interesting since the vest she's sporting looks very familiar. MCU fans will recognize the military-style garment as the one Nat was wearing throughout Infinity War.

It's unclear if Yelena and Nat's vests are just one and the same, since it's entirely possible that they simply have each of the aforementioned garment. All that being said, considering that the Black Widow standalone takes place prior to Infinity War, there's also a good chance Nat was indeed sporting Yelena's vest. Assuming that this is the case, the question is why? There are a couple of plausible scenarios that can explain why Nat was prominently wearing her sister's vest shortly after they separated again. It could simply be a sweet parting gift as Nat leaves her family again to join Captain America and Sam in Infinity War. Otherwise, there's also the sad possibility that Nat took over the vest after something horrible happened to Yelena - like perhaps dying during the events of the Black Widow film. Despite their brutal fight at the beginning of the trailer, it seems like the pair actually has a great relationship with each other.

Many deemed Yelena's upcoming introduction as an indication that she'll take over the mantle of Black Widow in the MCU. Obviously, if something happens to her in the Black Widow film that wouldn't be the case. Regardless of what the vest symbolizes in Nat's arc, it appears that Marvel Studios is trying to make a direct connection between the standalone movie and Nat's terrible experience in Avengers: Infinity War leading into her heroic death in Endgame.
