Scarlett Johansson may now be joined by an additional female cast member in her Black Widow solo movie. Marvel Studios is currently gearing up for the start of production on their second female-led film (following Captain Marvel), but the long-awaited solo film for Natasha Romanoff is taking a bit longer to get in front of cameras than previously believed. It was recently revealed that Ned Benson was rewriting the script in some capacity.

These rewrites possibly explain why filming was previously pushed back till June of this year, but it has also seen Marvel reportedly broaden the search for cast members. André Holland has been linked to the villain role recently, and this is said to only be possible because of these rewrites. In addition to modifying some roles, it now looks like Benson's new script will also be adding cast members to the Cate Shortland-directed project.

According to That Hashtag Show, Benson's rewrites included adding a new supporting female role to Black Widow. There are no details on the character, but Marvel is reportedly searching for a young actress of color to take on the part and already have a list of names they'd like to add. None of these actresses have auditioned yet, let alone been offered the part, but THS shared that some of the names the studio is looking at are Storm Reid (A Wrinkle In Time), Isabela Moner (Transformers: The Last Knight), Camila Mendes (Riverdale), and Hannah Quinlivan (Skyscraper).

Even though this role is a new addition to Black Widow and may only be minor, Marvel is clearly looking for someone that is somewhat established already. Reid has a relationship with Disney already, so it would not be surprising to see her get the part. Moner could be a fine choice as well, and is arguably the one rising through Hollywood the most after Sicario: Day of the Soldado and Instant Family last year, with Dora the Explorer on the way this year. Meanwhile, this would be a big break for Mendes on the big screen and another blockbuster for Quinlivan if either snag the role.

Regardless of who gets this new part, this is one of many Black Widow casting updates to come lately. Emma Watson is reportedly a contender for the new main female lead opposite Johansson, but she's also just one of a few names being considered. No matter what role it is, Marvel Studios has once again set their sights on some big stars and rising names to possibly join Black Widow's cast. Now, we'll just have to hope these casting searches wrap up soon so we can know exactly who will be part of the ensemble.
