Marvel still has no plans to release Black Widow on Disney+. Scarlett Johansson's first solo adventure as Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, was once slated to be the movie to kick off the MCU's Phase 4. Black Widow was scheduled for May 2020, and fans were thrilled at the prospect of finally seeing Natasha get her own movie. Unfortunately, the coronavirus pandemic effectively decimated moviegoing prospects last year, and Black Widow is just one of the many major films struggling to find a solid release plan.

Rumors of Black Widow switching tracks and becoming a Disney+ release have swirled ever since the Marvel film's first delay in March of last year. Several studios have adopted streaming strategies amid the pandemic, whether it's individual examples (such as Disney's Mulan and Soul) or more sweeping measures, like Warner Bros.' plan to send every 2021 movie to HBO Max and theaters on the same day. Black Widow is currently scheduled for release on May 7, but many believe yet another delay is likely. This has once again made fans wonder if a Disney+ release is on the horizon.

A new report from THR indicates this isn't likely. While discussing how most major studios are holding their biggest films for when theaters are back to (relative) normal, it's mentioned insiders with knowledge of the situation say there are no plans to ship Black Widow off to Disney+. It says nothing about another release delay, but evidently even if Black Widow does get bumped, fans shouldn't expect a Disney+ debut.

Black Widow Movie Disney Plus Streaming

Despite the many rumors suggesting otherwise, it isn't too surprising that Marvel is hesitant to put Black Widow on Disney+. As seen with big budget movies like Tenet and Wonder Woman 1984, a streaming release often results in lost money for studios, and Black Widow has the potential to really bring in some cash. It's been said that Disney+ is a last-ditch scenario for Black Widow, and that is so far holding firm. There's optimism that the COVID vaccine can help restore theaters, and Marvel must feel confident enough to wait, even with at least one more delay on the horizon.

For fans who have waited a long, long time to see Black Widow, this news comes with mixed feelings. Some just want to watch what very well may be Black Widow's last MCU outing, regardless of where that happens. Others prefer to see it on the big screen, as was always intended. The determination to wait for theaters to return to normal means Black Widow's already lengthy delay will likely stretch on even further. Hopefully, after all this, Black Widow will get the release it deserves while proving to be worth the wait.
