Marvel's Black Widow could reportedly be delayed once again. For many years, fans have waited for Scarlett Johansson's Natasha Romanoff to get a solo movie of her own. Their wishes were finally answered when Black Widow went into development and was officially announced last year at San Diego Comic-Con. Set in between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity WarBlack Widow will find Natasha confronting her past as she seeks to take out the Red Room that trained her years ago.

Sadly, however, Black Widow has suffered a major setback on its way to the big screen. The film was originally scheduled for release in May of this year, but the coronavirus pandemic pushed it to November 6. As a result, Marvel shuffled around its entire Phase 4 slate. Movie theaters have begun to open up in earnest around the world in recent weeks, but their safety remains a concern. As a result, studios are grappling with whether to delay their major upcoming films.

According to Deadline, there's a chance Black Widow could be delayed again. The report said there are "whispers" of Black Widow getting booted from its November 6 slot, though it did not say where it would move to. Additionally, Disney did not comment on the matter. Should Black Widow leave November, it could get replaced by fellow superhero flick Wonder Woman 1984.

Even with theaters reopening in most areas, there's no guarantee any movie currently scheduled will actually be released in the coming months. Disney might opt to delay Black Widow if they feel doing so will give it its very best chance at being successful. However, if Black Widow does in fact get moved, this will result in the rest of Phase 4 getting moved around once again. Eternals is the next movie and is scheduled for release in February; Disney could very well push Black Widow to Eternals' current date, which is what happened when the former was first delayed.

No doubt, this news will cause some to wonder whether Disney could send Black Widow straight to Disney+. The studio has already done this a few times, with the most notable instance being Mulan. However, when Mulan's move was announced, Disney CEO Bob Chapek insisted it was a one-off scenario, despite what others said soon after. That likely remains the case, especially since, as a Marvel movie, Black Widow is one that is best suited for theaters. As for whether Black Widow actually will get delayed again, Disney might make a decision in the coming weeks as they get a better grasp of how theaters are performing and how the number of cases around the world fluctuate. With just under two months to go before its hypothetical release, though, Disney will have to make a decision on Black Widow soon.
