Marvel Studios can finally show Natasha Romanoff's funeral in Black Widow after her death in Avengers: Endgame. Scarlett Johansson has been one of the faces of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since her debut as Black Widow in 2010's Iron Man 2. As an original member of the Avengers, her time with the team came to an end in the 2019 Marvel epic. Her and Hawkeye's time travel mission to Vormir ended with Natasha sacrificing her life so the Avengers could get the Soul Stone.

Despite a heroic end to Black Widow's MCU story, how Avengers: Endgame handled her death has been a common gripe for many. While Tony Stark received a universe-gathering funeral, Black Widow's death only got received a few moments of reflection by the other original members of the Avengers. They said that she didn't have a family, but that's not entirely true based on the trailers for Black Widow. The solo adventure will fill in gaps in Natasha's life, with those involved with the Avengers film even said the solo film is why Endgame didn't show her funeral. Instead, that moment could come in Black Widow.

Although the majority of Black Widow is confirmed to take place between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, it has also been revealed that the film will go further into Natasha's past. But, with a new batch of characters like Yenela Belova (Florence Pugh), Iron Maiden (Rachel Weisz), and Red Guardian (David Harbour) being introduced, there's also the opportunity for Black Widow to set up the MCU's future. One such way this could happen is by showing members of her Russian family that are still alive after Endgame gathering for Natasha's funeral at the end of the film.

Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff in Black Widow and Avengers Endgame

A funeral for Natasha would be a fitting way for Black Widow to end. After Marvel uses an entire film to highlight her in the way many fans have waited to see for years, this ending can wrap up Black Widow's MCU story. It could be a special moment for the film (or a post-credits scene) to see Yelena and other new characters from Black Widow assemble to honor the spy they once knew. This could even be an opportunity for other MCU characters to make brief cameos as they pay their respects to Natasha as well - such as Falcon, right before The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

Not only could Natasha's funeral be a great way to bookend Scarlett Johansson's time in the MCU, but it is also a moment that Marvel Studios may never have the chance to do again if not here. Unless more Black Widow films are made as prequels or some with Florence Pugh in the lead happen, there isn't a clear opportunity for Natasha's funeral to be shown. So, that makes this potentially a one-time opportunity that the studio shouldn't pass up. But now that the Black Widow's release has been postponed, we'll have to wait even longer to find out if Black Widow includes her funeral.
