The early ticket sales for Marvel's Black Widow are outpacing every other 2021 movie so far, as well as a few additional MCU titles. Like most things within the past year, the MCU suffered several setbacks at the hands of the coronavirus pandemic. All projects scheduled for 2020, from Black Widow to The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, were delayed to 2021. At long last, Black Widow, the long-awaited solo movie centered on Scarlett Johansson's Natasha Romanoff, debuts this week in theaters and on Disney+ via Premier Access.

Black Widow arrives with some high expectations. Its position as a Marvel movie aside, many are hoping the Cate Shortland-directed project can further push the box office towards recovery. After a year of devastating numbers, movie theaters are gradually inching towards normalcy, though progress has varied over the past few weeks. Delayed movies like A Quiet Place Part II and Fast & Furious 9 have been the strongest performers so far, with the latter notching the biggest opening weekend of the pandemic. However, all signs so far point to Black Widow unseating Dominic Toretto and his family.

Two days ahead of Black Widow's release (and one before Thursday night previews), Fandango announced the MCU flick has amassed the highest number of advanced ticket sales on the site for 2021. Fandango's Erik Davis chimed in and added that, in addition to outpacing A Quiet Place Part II and F9Black Widow is tracking ahead of pre-pandemic Marvel movies Spider-Man: Homecoming and Doctor Strange.

Just two weeks ago, F9 held Fandango's 2021 advanced sales record. That Black Widow has now overcome it further supports the projections that say the Marvel movie will score a bigger opening than The Fast Saga's latest installment. The most recent predictions believe Black Widow will open within the $80 million to $90 million range, which would easily beat F9's $70 million total. Projections aren't guaranteed figures, though, so it's not entirely certain Black Widow will go that high.

Still, the early buzz points to a much-needed win at the box office. Black Widow will also be available via Premier Access on Disney+ for $29.99, which could impact the overall sales. However, MCU movies are best viewed in a movie theater and, as the viral videos from Avengers: Endgame's opening night showed, fans miss getting the full Marvel theatrical experience. Black Widow's opening might not reach quite the same heights that people have come to expect from the MCU, but that's to be expected with the pandemic still raising concern. All eyes will be on the box office this weekend; expect Natasha to come out on top.
