Florence Pugh, who plays Yelena Belova in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, reacts to her Black Widow costume being excluded from a Halloween display. Earlier this year, Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff returned in her first (and last) solo outing, which was released in theaters and on Disney+ on July 9th. Following her character’s sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame, Black Widow takes between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. In Black Widow, its titular character teams up with her surrogate family and fellow Red Room affiliates, Melina Vostokoff (Rachel Weisz), Red Guardian (David Harbour), and Pugh’s Yelena Belova.

Thanks to roles in Lady MacbethFighting with My FamilyMidsommar, and Little Women, Pugh’s profile has risen exponentially in recent years. Black Widow has received generally favorable reviews from critics with many praises for Pugh’s quick-witted character—from making fun of Natasha’s superhero landing to her obsession with an extremely functional vest full of useful pockets—the first garment Yelena bought for herself after escaping the Red Room. At the end of the film, Yelena gave Natasha all of those pockets and, once a blonde-haired Natasha became part of the Secret Avengers (Infinity War), she wears her sister’s green vest.

With Halloween just around the corner, Pugh recently took to Instagram to share a photo of herself standing in front of a window display that features costumes made to look like Johansson's Black Widow and Harbour’s Red Guardian. The actress was quick to point out the absence of a costume inspired by Yelena, whose pockets would certainly come in handy on All Hallows’ Eve. Check out her post below:

Superhero costumes have always been a top choice for Halloween. In 2021, female-led superhero films like Wonder Woman 1984 and Black Widow have contributed to a rise in purchases. Given Pugh's role in the latter, it’s certainly a missed opportunity not to sell Yelena’s vest, especially considering the fact that the character is expected to inherit the mantle of Black Widow in the MCU.

As popular as Pugh's character has become since the release of Black Widow, dedicated fans will undoubtedly craft their own Yelena costumes to show off this Halloween, especially following Pugh's hilarious rant. Window displays aside, Marvel fans will presumably get to see much more of Yelena in Phase 4. And hopefully, Pugh will end up seeing plenty of people dressed up as Yelena this Halloween too.
