Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren team up to break out of a CIA black site in a clip from their new film, Black Water. The 1980s/'90s action movie stars are far from strangers onscreen, having previously appeared in a trio of Universal Soldier movies together (including, the original 1992 entry) and technically shared the screen in The Expendables 2. Neither of them have slowed down their pace in recent years either, with their projects of late ranging from Kickboxer reboots to Sharknado sequels and even a guest role on Arrow for Lundgren.

The directorial debut for longtime cinematographer Pasha Patriki, Black Water was scripted by Van Damme's 6 Bullets writer Chad Law and will begin playing in theaters near the end of this month. Van Damme stars in the movie as Wheeler, a deep cover operative who finds himself imprisoned on an underwater CIA black ops site (one that takes on the form of a submarine) after a mission gone wrong. With no where else to turn, Wheeler seeks help from Marco (Lundgren), a fellow prisoner and dangerous man who might just hold the key to their escape.

In Screen Rant's exclusive Black Water clip from Saban Films, Wheeler and Marco properly meet for the first time and strike a deal to work together and break out of their sub-prison. Serving as the third wheel here is Jasmine Waltz as Cassie Taylor, a CIA agent who joins forces with Wheeler after finding out what his real mission is and how he ended up in this black site to begin with. As such, it falls to the young agent and her gruff-voiced, muscle-bound "friends" to take down the real villains aboard their moving prison.

Black Water is one of several films that Lundgren has coming out this year, along with the sequel Creed II (where he reprise his Rocky IV role as Ivan Drago) and the Aquaman solo movie, in which Lundgren plays the underwater King Nereus. Lundgren is also expected to reprise his role as "Expendable" Gunner Jensen early next year, when Expendables 4 begins production. Van Damme isn't quite so busy by comparison, but has a pair of low-budget efforts (We Die Young and The Bouncer) set to arrive this year, in addition to Black Water.

B-movies that pair up '80s/'90s action stars are practically a genre unto themselves nowadays and, by the look of it, Black Water should please those who have a soft spot for that flavor of cheesy action fare. The movie further begs comparison to an enjoyable B-movie romp like Escape Plan, in terms of both its premise and the way it that unites two aging tough guys for some old school knuckle-brained escapism. Fittingly enough, Escape Plan's own sequel, Escape Plan 2: Hades, will be arriving On Demand the same day that Black Water does this month. Double feature, anyone?
