Sebastian Stan reveals that Bucky’s reveal as the White Wolf in the Black Panther post-credit scene was supposed to be longer with some humorous scenes eventually cut from the movie.

The 35-year-old actor is a seven-year veteran of the MCU, having played his role as Bucky Barnes – Captain America Steve Rogers’ oldest buddy, for four times (Captain America: The First Avenger, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War and Black Panther). And while Cap’s story seems to be starting its end via Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4, Bucky’s appears to just be starting, following him taking on a new persona as the White Wolf.

Appearing at this year’s Wizard World Portland (via CinemaBlend), Stan shared some interesting details regarding his years of experience playing Bucky aka. The Winter Soldier in the MCU. But since the actor can’t talk anything about Infinity War – which he is a pivotal part of specifically during Wakanda’s battle against Thanos and his minions, he opted to focus on his character’s upcoming new trajectory being the White Wolf and how the reveal via the Black Panther post-credit scene was supposed to be longer.

“There was something really actually funny about that scene. It’s definitely better the way it is now, I think. But that scene was at least 8 more minutes long than what we saw. And it was like a more inquisitive Bucky. He was kind of really going, ‘Why do they call it these?’ And [Shuri] was telling him a little about it, and they kind of walk in a direction, and then he walked over and started hanging out with elders and playing with the kids, but you don’t see that.”

Fortunately (and as Stan pointed out), Coogler decided to cut it to what eventually ended up in the final film as it was just perfectly executed to both remind fans that Bucky is indeed getting better in Wakanda, as well as tease his newest persona as the White Wolf. It was subtle enough that it didn’t distract from the principal story of Black Panther, but just enough to set-up a very different path from Bucky now that he’s no longer The Winter Soldier. Anything more than what fans have seen in the movie might be overkill already.

Further, a longer post-credit scene centering on someone that wasn’t present during the whole crisis that the Kingdom just went through might feel a bit out of place. Surely, the creatives would’ve preferred for people to talk about what actually happened in the film more than a stinger that technically, doesn’t really have anything to do with the flick’s main narrative. And while there’s no doubt that Coogler will deliver on the teased humorous bonus sequence, a joke or two as the parting shot for Black Panther might’ve undermined the social and political story that the film just spent the last two hours telling.
