Weeks after the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, details are emerging regarding the extent of the lore-building pertaining to Tenoch Huerta's Namor. The character, who made his debut in Marvel Comics around the same time as flagship heroes Captain America and the Human Torch, had been a long-awaited MCU inclusion since the debut of the larger universe. In bringing Namor and his underwater homeland of Talokan to the screen, aided by the casting of Huerta and other indigenous Mexicans, audiences expected a jaw-dropping amount of detail to be put into crafting this new world. Unsurprisingly, director Ryan Coogler and Marvel delivered, and Talokan has been undoubtedly one of the highlights of the well-received sequel to 2018's Black Panther.

Now, according to SlashFilm, Talokan's creation was aided by a 200-page Bible crafted by Marvel dictating every small detail of Namor's underwater domicile. According to Weta VFX supervisor Chris White, the production bible went into the nation's history, battle strategies, and various small but crucial details that would enhance Talokan's short but necessary screen-time in the film. Read the full excerpt below:

Talokan is a massive, massive city, and it has multiple cities that are around it as well. [T]his was my first Marvel project, but as we first got on, there was a production bible of just Talokan, and it was 200 pages full of their history, their tools they built, their architecture, the influence, how they traveled through Central America.

It's amazing how extensive that story was that they had created. It may go by in like four minutes or so, but they've thought through so much, even as we first joined in. Just like everything, the culture — very extensive.

Where Will Namor Appear Next In The MCU?

Namor surfacing in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

With all the hard work that went into making Namor's homeland a striking and important location for the MCU, the assumption is not that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be the franchise's only voyage to Talokan, nor will it be the only glimpse of Namor in the MCU. At the end of the film, though the prince of Talokan is defeated, he vows to his contemporaries that he will play the long game with Wakanda and will attempt to use them to gain even more power over the surface world. Unsurprisingly, Huerta's performance as Namor has been lauded by fans and critics alike, and the door for Namor's return has been left wide open by the end of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Any fan of the comics would be confident in the most logical place for Namor to appear next in the MCU. The sea prince is most well-known as an ally - and occasional enemy - of The Fantastic Four, and is one of the most prominent heroes to appear in the inaugural golden age Marvel series. With an MCU take on the beloved first family of Marvel headed for movie screens in 2025, Namor making an appearance is a safe bet, especially if Doctor Doom appears in the film as well. Even with no casting announcements at this point for any crucial Fantastic Four characters, having Huerta's Namor would provide a safe entryway for MCU-loving skeptics into a Disney portrayal of this team.

This isn't to say that a Fantastic Four film appearance is Namor's only possible entrance into the larger MCU, as Namor canonically has a crucial link to Captain America, and could factor into 2024's Captain America: New World Order. Additionally, while there has yet to be a third Black Panther installment greenlit, it's a safe bet that a future Wakanda-set adventure could feature a rematch between Namor and Letitia Wright's Shuri. This doesn't include other interesting appearances Namor could make around the larger MCU before an inevitable appearance in Avengers: Secret Wars. With all the promise that Namor has as a perennial character after his Black Panther: Wakanda Forever debut, it's all but certain that the 200-page lore bible will have several more uses down the line.
