Disney+ confirms where Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline. The sequel to 2018's Black Panther debuted in theaters in November 2022 and told a mostly standalone story within the wider Marvel Studios franchise. The story began a few months after Avengers: Endgame's ending to explain T'Challa's passing before jumping forward one year to focus on the main conflict between Namor and Wakanda. Due to the sequel's fairly straightforward story and explicit timeline details, it appeared to be quite simple to place Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in the MCU timeline, but the debate about the right order of Marvel's movies and shows has continued.

The confusion that came with the MCU Phase 4 timeline is largely thanks to Disney+, which repeatedly places Marvel Studios properties at different points in chronological order than most other MCU resources and guides. Now that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is streaming on Disney+, the movie has been added to the Marvel Cinematic Universe Timeline Order playlist. According to Disney+, Black Panther 2 is set between Moon Knight and She-Hulk: Attorney At Law in the MCU timeline. This indicates a Spring 2025 setting for the movie, which is correct.

Disney+'s MCU Timeline Gets Wakanda Forever Right (But Is Still Wrong)

She-Hulk and MCU Timeline

The placement of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is a somewhat rare win for Disney+. Black Panther 2's MCU timeline setting is quite clearly at least one year and a few months after Avengers: Endgame. Since the movie's ending is believed to occur in October 2023, the minimal one-year time jump makes late 2024 the earliest the film could take place. However, the passage of time needed to tell T'Challa's story necessitates a longer gap. It is also teased that Nakia has not been in Wakanda for over six years after she left to raise her and T'Challa's son. That is why Black Panther: Wakanda Forever taking place in Spring 2025 fits.

The Disney+ MCU timeline might be right about Black Panther: Wakanda Forever's placement in relation to coming after Moon Knight and before She-Hulk, but the overall MCU chronological timeline is wrong. She-Hulk takes place in summer 2025 based on what is presented in the series. However, Moon Knight is believed to take place in summer 2024. While that is still before Black Panther 2, the Disney+ timeline puts Moon Knight after Hawkeye - which firmly takes place in Christmas 2024. That would mean that Moon Knight needs to occur in spring 2025, but the show's attention to detail with lunar phases suggests otherwise.

There are plenty of other placements in the MCU timeline on Disney+ that are also debatable (if not outright incorrect). Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is suggested to take place before Hawkeye, while Thor: Love and Thunder's timeline is positioned as taking place in summer 2025. These two MCU movies arguably need to flip positions. With Marvel Studios planning to release an official MCU timeline book later this year, hopefully more details will be revealed to help fix the Disney+ timeline.
