Black Panther: Wakanda Forever made a big reveal in its mid-credits scene that will impact Wakanda and the remaining members of the royal family, but it also made Thanos’ snap in Avengers: Infinity War even more tragic. After the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, the MCU spent most of Phase 4 dealing with the aftermath of Thanos’ snap, its reversal, and the Battle of Earth, and closing this phase was Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which even though focused on Wakanda’s state after the death of T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman), it still made room for some answers regarding the impact of Thanos’ snap on its side of the MCU.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever saw Wakanda adapting to a new leader after the death of King T’Challa as well as to the rise of a new Black Panther. In addition to that, Wakanda had to deal with Namor, the ruler of the underwater kingdom of Talokan who believed Wakanda was putting his people in danger, and this led Shuri and Okoye to meet Riri Williams a.k.a. Ironheart and reunite with Nakia. The latter had an active role in the story after being absent from the Battle of Earth in Avengers: Endgame, and the mid-credits scene of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever explained why she didn’t join the rest of the MCU in Endgame, but it also made Thanos’ snap and its consequences a lot more devastating.

Thanos' Snap Is Even Sadder After The Reveal Of T'Challa's Child

Black Panther Wakanda Forever Toussaint

Thanos’ mission was to acquire the Infinity Stones and the Infinity Gauntlet so he could wipe out half of life in the universe with the snap of his fingers with the purpose of bringing balance to the universe, making way for one of the most shocking and tragic events in the MCU so far. The impact and consequences of the snap have been explored throughout the Multiverse Saga, but there have been some reveals that have made the snap even worse than it was, and one of those has been the reveal of T’Challa and Nakia’s child in the mid-credits scene of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

In it, Shuri traveled to Haiti, where Nakia now lives, to finish her mourning of her brother, and there she received the surprise that Nakia has a son, Toussaint, whose father is none other than T’Challa. Toussaint told his aunt that his Wakandan name is T’Challa, thus setting him up to become Black Panther one day. Based on the timeline, Toussaint was born in 2018-2019, either not long before Thanos’ snap or after it, and as T’Challa was one of the heroes who vanished as a result of the snap, this means that Toussaint didn’t get to share much time with his father, as the heroes who disappear didn’t return until five years later – and even after T’Challa’s return, they weren’t able to make up for all those lost years.

The mid-credits scene of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever also explained why Nakia didn’t join T’Challa, Shuri, M’Baku, Okoye, and the rest of the Wakandan army in the Battle of Earth in Avengers: Endgame. Nakia told Shuri that she and T’Challa agreed to raise their son in Haiti, far away from the pressure of the throne, and as she survived the snap, she spent the following years raising her son and doing community work in Haiti. Nakia, then, wouldn’t have been aware of the Avengers' plans when the time came for the Battle of Earth, and even if she had been, her agreement with T’Challa for the safety of their son would have kept her far away from the battle.
