Marvel Studios' Black Panther is now the most tweeted about movie of all-time. Even before Black Panther hit theaters, the movie started to break records - and it has only continued to do so. It wildly surpassed box office projections in its opening weekend, and the momentum behind the cultural phenomenon has only continued to propel Black Panther upwards. It just became the first film since Avatar to win five consecutive weekends at the box office, and will soon top The Avengers domestically.

The buzz for Black Panther started early and hasn't really died down since. Some of this can be attributed to the social movement Black Panther's been apart of, especially online. The movie has spawned hashtags like #BlackPantherSoLit and #WakandaForever. Thanks to the constant use of these (and other) hashtags, Black Panther now holds another record.

THR shared the news that Twitter previously announced that Black Panther is now officially the most tweeted about movie ever. This title comes as Black Panther eclipsed the 35 million mark. There's no data on how early tweets were factored in, but the tally continues to climb as the movie has just now claimed this award. While Black Panther's proven to be popular around the world, its social media presence was most felt in the States, as well as the UK and Thailand.

In order to break this record, Black Panther topped both Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Surpassing both of those movies in online chatter is certainly impressive considering the circumstances surrounding each. The Force Awakens brought Star Wars back to theaters for the first time in a decade and was praised as a result. The Last Jedi on the other hand was not as favorably received by fans, but that debate surely helped keep it alive online.

Even though Black Panther has been tweeted about more than either, it may not top either at the box office. Black Panther currently has earned just under $1.2 billion. There's no chance it catches The Force Awakens' $2 billion, but it could possibly catch The Last Jedi's $1.3 billion if it continues to have strong legs. Falling shy of that wouldn't be a disappointment, however. Not many expected Black Panther to even cross $1B, so rivaling Star Wars is quite impressive. As nice as it is for Black Panther to break another record, the real test will be to see how long it can hold it.
