The Marvel Cinematic Universe has taken over the movie industry and the hearts of many movie fans. Recently, one of the largest powerhouse blockbusters was Black Panther. The flick has earned $631 billion to date and has become the highest-grossing superhero movie ever in the U.S.

Recently, Disney acquisitioned FOX's television and movie properties. That includes the rights to The Fantastic Four and the X-Men. Between that and the success of the MCU, there has been more and more interest in what will happen next for the movie franchise.

In the comics, The Avengers, including Black Panther, often have run-ins with the X-Men. With this shift in ownership, only time will tell how Charles Xavier’s mutant team meets other Marvel icons cinematically. There many possibilities that could be in store.

Specifically, in reference to the Black Panther, will T’Challa’s one-time wife, Storm, find her way into Black Panther 2?

While many people know of the marriage, not as many know the whole story between Ororo Munroe (Storm) and the beloved King T’Challa of Wakanda.

Digging deep into the history of comics, we’ve pulled together the 25 Things Only True Fans Know About Storm And Black Panther's Relationship.

25. They Met When Storm Saved T'Challa's Life

X-Men Apocalypse Trailer Storm Horseman

Storm and Black Panther met for the first time in 1980's Marvel Team-Up #100. Both heroes hailed from Africa and the comic took the opportunity to exploit that commonality.

The story describes a situation where a group of aggressive white supremacists attack the young T'Challa, planning to kidnap him.

Storm saves the young prince and, despite a mutual attraction, the two part ways.

This sets them up to meet again as adults to take down the group's ringleader, Andreas de Ruyter.

While acknowledging the feelings they had, they agree that time has passed. However, things don't stay that way.

24. Their Wedding Created Peace

In 2006, writers craved a power-couple to anchor their superhero Civil War event. Hastily, Storm and Black Panther were thrown together once more.

Within a few issues, they were in love and getting married.

Their wedding marked a ceasefire for the troublesome conflict. Many heroes from both sides of the war appeared to support and celebrate the newly married couple.

The war quickly picked back up, but T'Challa and Ororo's wedding facilitated a short peace in the world of superheroes.

23. There Was Some Tension At Their Wedding

Chris Evans as Captain America and Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man in Captain America: Civil War

While their wedding was a ceasefire, that didn't mean that it didn't have its mishaps. Iron Man and Captain America both showed up, but didn't stay civil.

Their tensions with one another led both to leave early to avoid a fight despite T'Challa's pleas for them to stay and be civil.

The Cannibal tried to infiltrate the wedding, only to be thwarted by Dr. Strange's magic.

Also, finally, a petty fight eventually does break out between Spiderman and Man-Ape. Man-Ape may be better known in the movies as M'Baku, leader of the Wakandan mountain tribes.

However, everything else remains relatively peaceful under the watchful eyes of Wakanda's newly married king and queen.

22. How They Met Was Completely Altered

Writers aptly decided that a discarded childhood attraction and superhuman awesomeness wasn't enough to fall in love over.

In writing a Storm mini-series before the wedding event, writers ret-conned how they met.

Now, their story was re-written for the young T'Challa to save Ororo from attackers.

The two young people spent time together, with T'Challa nursing Ororo back to health. They eventually fell in love. They even slept together for the first time.

According to the comic, Ororo had loved him ever since. T'Challa only ended their romance when he left Ororo to become a leader to his people.

21. A Real Fashion Designer Created Storm's Wedding Dress

Marvel took the high-profile marriage of the couple very seriously, even hiring a real fashion designer to design Storm's wedding dress.

Shawn Dudley combined Storm's costume with African culture, Wakandan culture, and Storm's own regal style to create a breathtaking dress.

One of the most stunning and fun callbacks is the fact her wedding dress comes with a cape, which is reminiscent of the iconic cape used for her superhero costume.

Storm also wore a ruby necklace around her neck, which was similar to the one in her costume's bodice.

Dudley and the writers were committed to creating a personalized dress for the new Queen Ororo of Wakanda.

20. Their Marriage Put Wakanda In Danger

Black Panther's marriage to Storm greatly changed the trajectory of his country. With the Superhuman Registration Act (called the Sokovia Accords in the movies) in action, and his wife being a mutant, T'Challa became a proponent of opposition.

Hunted by various groups and even sects of the government, mutants were endangered by the act.

T'Challa had to change his country's policies to become much more militant during the war to protect mutants and oppose the act.

Warmongering had never been something that Wakanda had been known for. These actions also made Wakanda a much larger target than it ever was before.

19. Most Of Their Relationship Was Never Explored

Black Panther and Storm

Though how the couple originally met was ret-conned to better include one another, much of their romance occurred behind the scenes.

Their relationship was rushed through a mini-series in order to prepare for the big wedding event.

Therefore, the writers had to leave much of their development out. Consequently, their relationship struggled to connect with readers. It can be very hard to create a show-stopping romance in only 32 pages.

This, unfortunately, helped the writers to create the couple's demise.

18. Their Marriage Made Storm The Most Important Mutant In The World

The rewrites and ret-cons set up the couple to be marrying for love. However, there was a deeply political side of the couple's relationship.

As a high-profile mutant, Ororo's union with the king gave her a definitive stage to advocate for mutant rights. Wakanda was one of the most technologically advanced countries in the world, after all.

Charles Xavier congratulated her ob the marriage, but he also expressed to Storm that this decision would make her the most important mutant in the world.

While love is beautiful, there was clearly a very strong political reason why Storm marrying T'Challa was the best thing for her and all of the mutants she swore to protect.

17. Their Different Passions Put A Strain On Their Relationship

Black Panther and the Wakanda army in Avengers Infinity War

One of the best things about both heroes is their passion for their people. However, it is also one of their biggest problems.

This passion made them a powerhouse team for superhuman/mutant advocacy.

Storm was extremely dedicated to her work at Professor Xavier's school, while T'Challa was similarly fiercely protective and passionate about his country, Wakanda.

Though married, Black Panther and Storm spent most of their marriage on separate missions.

Their separate passions and storylines also made writing them into the same place difficult. This caused strain on their marriage and on the writers.

16. Their Marriage Was A Big Deal

Ororo and T'Challa's marriage meant a lot in the real world, as well. However rushed, the marriage between T'Challa and Ororo was the coupling of the two most respected and revered black superheroes.

To see them happily come together and succeed as one was a big deal for many African American readers.

Even more, regardless of opinions on their marriage, the event itself was rich with African culture and celebration.

The state of their rushed relationship mattered less when compared to the representation that African culture received between the pages of their wedding event comic.

15. T'Challa Annulled Their Marriage While Storm Was Away

Marrying an all-powerful king has its downsides, though, as Storm learned the hard way.

During the Civil War, Storm often had to leave to assist the X-Men and other mutants. One such time, Wakanda was attacked by Namor, the king of Atlantis, while he was possessed by the Phoenix Force.

Normally, Wakanda was highly defensible. With its power extended outward to help the Captain America side of the war, however, the attack devastated the country.

Between this and the X-Men vs. Avengers event, a heartbroken Black Panther lashed out and annuled his marriage with Storm while she was away.

She was only given notice when she came back to try to help put Wakanda back together. He asked her to leave, saying their marriage was over.

While the couple remained friends, their romance never recovered.

14. An X-Men Writer Opposed Of Their Union

A prolific X-Men writer, Chris Claremont, is someone very adamant that the Black Panther/Storm pairing never should have happened.

The logic behind their relationship was to pair two very strong heroes together. Its similar to arguments that state that Superman fits better with Wonder Woman than with Lois Lane.

However, Storm and Black Panther both had separate comics. It became hard to give the two equal weight and have them appear in the same places.

The inability to make one a supporting character instead of a hero hurt their relationship.

Under Claremont's reasoning, their marriage falling apart was for the best for their hero careers.

13. Many Have Divisive Opinions About The Relationship

Storm and Black Panther

Many people simply see the T'Challa/Ororo relationship as a mistake, while others think that the couple was just poorly handled and could have made a really great Marvel power couple.

With patience and the rights hands, and some more build-up before rushing to the alter, the two could really hit it off.

Both are strong, regal, respected characters with a devotion to their past and traditions. Therefore their similarities in their beliefs could greatly outweigh the things going against them.

The idea is clearly popular, as the question of Ororo's possible involvement in the next Black Panther movie has been brought up countless times.

12. They May Be Back Together

Recently, T'Challa and Ororo Munroe's relationship has rekindled. Ta-Nehisi Coates, famous author of Between the World and Me, mantled a Black Panther series in which the couple shares romantic feelings once more.

The series ran for 11 issues from 2014-2015. There's a possibility to keep the romance consistent and growing, however, as Coates has been in talks to helm a Storm comic series as well.

Time will tell if Coates finds the two juggernaut heroes falling in love all over again, and perhaps more organically than the last go-around.

11. T'Challa Wants Storm To Find Love... As Long As It Isn't With Wolverine

Despite the new possibility of love, the past few years have only chronicled Black Panther and Storm as exes who are friends.

They usually stay out of each other's lives. The two connect only to play chess and be colleagues in the superhero business.

T'Challa has backed off and only wishes the best for Storm. He even encourages her to find love-- that is, as long as its not Wolverine.

The King of Wakanda states Logan as the one and only person who he doesn't want Storm to be with.

Of course, that hardly means Storm heeds his request. He broke her heart, after all.

10. T'Challa Broke It Off With Storm So That He Could Be A Better King

Black Panther throne

T'Challa's sudden and uncompromising annulment of their marriage was cruel. His reasons were understandable, though.

Because of his love for Ororo, he left his city less defended against Namor and the Phoenix Force. He, the king, aided in his land's decimation.

Furthermore, his queen was away and wasn't there to help defend Wakanda's people.

While cruel, T'Challa felt betrayed and abandoned. The Wakandan King decided to refocus on his people and remove the queen who was always away.

The broken country left him a broken man, and at that time, he found Ororo's absence from protecting his people unforgivable.

9. T'Challa Helped Storm Find Her Family

Storm in Egypt in the X-Men Apocalypse Trailer

T'Challa's proposal to Storm came with more than a ring-- he promised that he would help her find her long lost family.

The heroine lived her youth as an urchin in Cairo, growing up alone. Storm found solace in the X-Men because of her lack of blood relatives.

With T'Challa, she went searching around the world and found family in America and Africa.

Both heroes value family and traditions, even if they don't always follow them.

Now, with the family she lost by her side, Storm was ready to marry the man willing to trek around the world to find them. This gesture was easily one of the most romantic of their entire relationship.

8. Their Son Became One Of The Next Avengers

Azari Son of Black Panther and Storm

The marriage of Storm and Black Panther definitely had its impact, however short-lived.

In the animated movie, The Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow, one of the main characters is their son, a young boy by the name of Azari.

In this timeline, Ultron defeats the original Avengers. Because of this, Iron Man is enlisted to round up all of the Avengers' children and protect them.

Azari is calm and collected. He even bonded with the panther spirit since birth. His blend of tactical ability and electrical powers makes him a powerful ally.

Azari is a vital team-member, as The Next Avengers try to pick up where their parents left off.

7. They Have Other Children In Alternate Realities

The powerful superhero duo of Ororo and T'Challa sired a few possible children.

The time-traveling hero, Kymera, is only confirmed as Storm's daughter. However, she is accompanied by a giant black panther and has many animal-based abilities. Many fans believe that these indicate that Black Panther is her father.

In other timelines and universes, Storm and Black Panther have several other children. These include Sky Panther, Becka Munroe, Sh'ri, and T'Chaka.

The two powerful African heroes have a bond that transcends even alternate realities.

6. Storm Had To Get Approval From The Panther God

Marrying the King of Wakanda is even more complicated than one might expect. There is a royal ritual where the anticipated spouse must travel to the spirit realm in order to meet with the Panther God.

As the leader of the royal line, the Panther God must approve of the marriage before the bride/groom can become a part of the family.

Ororo was apprehensive of this, as T'Challa didn't tell her until shortly before the ceremony. However, the Panther God accepted Ororo readily.

The storm goddess earned the spiritual seal of approval, though meeting the family has probably never been so intimidating.
