Marvel Studios reportedly has two different Black Panther spinoff Disney+ shows in the works. The Marvel Cinematic Universe introduced a new corner of the world to audiences with the release of the 2018 movie, which saw Chadwick Boseman reprise his role as T'Challa after Captain America: Civil War. Expectations were high for Black Panther and it still managed to exceed them critically, commercially, and beyond. Marvel Studios is now working on Black Panther: Wakanda Forever with director Ryan Coogler, but they have much bigger plans for the characters associated with the fictional, technologically advanced, African nation.

The launch of Disney+ in late 2019 gave Marvel Studios a chance to create content for the small screen with budgets on par with the MCU blockbuster movies. WandaVision and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier gave previously supporting MCU characters a chance to be at the center of their own stories. Marvel is developing multiple other Disney+ shows that will elevate existing characters or introduce new ones, such as Ms. Marvel and Moon Knight. Fans expected Marvel to eventually tell stories based around the Black Panther franchise on the popular streaming service, and it appears there are two already in the works.

It was previously announced that Ryan Coogler was developing a series focused on the kingdom of Wakanda, but recently news surfaced that Danai Gurira will play Okoye again in a Disney+ series. How this information came to light made it unclear if the two projects were separate or one and the same. According to Deadline, these are two different projects. The report states that Gurira could also return for Coogler's Wakanda series in addition to the Okoye series, which means that these are separate properties. The outlet also confirmed that the Okoye series will be an origin story for the Dora Milaje leader.

Neither of these Black Panther Disney+ shows have an official timeline for when they will happen. It is safe to assume that neither will come before Black Panther: Wakanda Forever hits theaters in July 2022. The sequel might not even be filming yet, but these two projects show just how big of a role Wakanda and the Black Panther franchise will continue to play in the MCU's future, even without Chadwick Boseman's T'Challa.

It shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that Marvel is doubling down on the Black Panther franchise and expanding its reach to Disney+. The first film was a worldwide phenomenon as it introduced a terrific corner of the MCU and touched on real-world social issues. A series focusing on the kingdom of Wakanda can be a place to dive deeper into how the country operates and what life is like there on a day-to-day basis. Meanwhile, the Okoye series can show how she became the leader of the Dora Milaje, one of Wakanda's most skilled warriors, and a trusted advisor to the king.
