Black Panther star Letitia Wright wants Shuri to one day become the new Black Panther. Fans quickly fell in love with Wright's portrayal of Wakanda's tech genius and can't wait to see more of her in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Wright made Shuri stand out in Black Panther, which says a lot considering its impressive cast. Her banter and ability to outsmart everyone helped her steal scenes in Avengers: Infinity War, despite having a small role.

Although her character's reception helped a lot, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige assured fans that Shuri is going to be around for the long-haul. Even though T'Challa was the last one to ascend to the throne of Wakanda, there is precedence in the comics for Shuri to take one day on the mantle of the Black Panther. This is an arc many people, including Wright herself, are hoping to see play out on the big screen.

Letitia Wright attended MCM London Comic-Con, and during a panel Q&A (via Screen Geek), she was asked if she'd want to see Shuri one day become Black Panther. She isn't necessarily gunning for Chadwick Boseman's place as the franchise lead, but she is more than willing to accept such a challenge, should it ever come her way.

"If the opportunity came about, then why not? It would be comic book accurate. Yeah, that would be amazing. It means more training, more learning and it would really be an amazing adventure. Shuri becomes a savage in the comic books. From going to comedic and fun and like a kid – to then just pulling out some claws. I’m excited."

Shuri from Black Panther and her Comic Armor

Thanks to the events of Avengers: Infinity War, the chances of seeing Shuri rise to the throne could happen sooner rather than later. Even if the Avengers come out on top at the end of Avengers 4, T'Challa is still a new ruler of Wakanda. After the country chose to abide by their traditions for years, T'Challa made a controversial decision to open Wakanda to the world. The act of opening their doors seemed good on paper, but it also invited the world's problems onto their doorstep. The remaining Wakandans who survived Thanos' invasion in Infinity War will need to look for new leadership now that T'Challa is gone, and they might find that leadership in Shuri.

She's still young and Boseman, hopefully, has a bit more of a future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Shuri ruling Wakanda one day is as great of a possibility as anything. As long as her character continues to be well-received, it's hard to imagine anyone other than Shuri becoming the Black Panther next. Marvel is even open to the idea of seeing the Black Panther mantle passed around, so they could tease fans with this briefly until T'Challa is able to rule again. Whether that happens in Avengers 4 or any of the future Black Panther sequels, however, remains to be seen, but this progression for Shuri certainly seems to be in the cards.
