Black Panther star Letitia Wright would be interested in a Shuri solo movie if the opportunity came her way. Marvel Studios is nearing the launch of their next film, and Black Panther could prove to be their most important film yet. Focused on Captain America: Civil War breakout star Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa, his solo movie is set to fully introduce his high-tech and spiritual country of Wakanda. In doing so, audiences are going to meet plenty of new characters in Black Panther, including T'Challa's sister.

Shuri is the younger sister to Wakanda's new king, who specializes in creating their advanced technology. She is said to be smarter than Tony Stark, and early reactions from the movie point to Letitia Wright being a fan-favorite addition. With Shuri having a promising comic arc that Marvel Studios could eventually adapt, Wright says she would be interested in a Shuri movie where she takes on the mantle.

Comic Book interviewed Letitia Wright as part of the Black Panther press junket and asked her about the potential for Shuri to get her own movie. She was understandably thrilled about the possibility and said she would happily do it if that was an option. But, she also doesn't want to see that movie or Black Panther 2 happen without the return of first film's impressive cast.

I hope, whenever the time is right, if it's meant to happen, I would happily do it. But you can't have a Shuri movie without T'Challa and you can't have a Shuri movie without Ramonda and Nakia and the rest of the Dora Milaje and Okoye. So, I guess, the question is: when can we have Black Panther 2?

A blended image features Letitia Wright as Shuri in the MCU and Shuri as the Black Panther in Marvel comics

In the comics, Shuri eventually takes over the mantle of ruler of Wakanda and becomes the new Black Panther. Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige always have a longterm plan in mind, and it is possible they are thinking of eventually doing this arc in future films. Even though Wright would be interested in playing out this arc, she also believes Shuri has a ways to go before ruling. Plus, Wright (and everybody else) want to see much more of Boseman.

If that's meant to happen then why not? But my thing is: where we meet her now in the Marvel Universe, she's young, she's preparing, she's just into technology, she's creating, she's just really fun and really focused on that. So, if that's meant to happen, then cool, but at the moments, hey, man, Chadwick [Boseman] is killing as Black Panther! I'm happy to help out with the gadgets for now. If that's meant to be, it'll be, but he's amazing as Black Panther.

If Wright does get the chance to lead a movie, it is likely still many years away. Black Panther is tracking for a big opening and the continued record-breaking results will surely mean Marvel Studios wants to keep this franchise going. Should the franchise continue long enough, then Wright should get her shot. That opportunity could come in a Shuri spinoff or simply with Shuri stepping up to lead Wakanda in Black Panther 4 - assuming Marvel plans on Boseman leading a trilogy. There's no guarantee that any of this will happen, but as long as the MCU continues to move along with multiple films a year, the better Wright's chances will be of seeing this become a reality.
