Watch Black Panther Cast Play With Vanity Fair's Fear Box

The cast of Black Panther do some unusual marketing for the film by trying their hand at a fear box. Marvel didn't always have the Black Panther rights, as he was one of many characters they sold off and had to buy back after declaring bankruptcy in the mid-1990s. The company's prospects have since turned around in a huge way, and a solo movie starring T'Challa is now a reality and starting its international rollout, ahead of its domestic release.

Black Panther hits U.S. theaters nationwide on Thursday (with evening previews), but critics are already raving about the film. Those lucky enough to have seen the movie early are gushing over its blend of political/social commentary and sheer entertainment value. All told, it's no wonder Black Panther is tracking for a massive opening stateside, with estimates continuing to rise. In the meantime, the Black Panther cast members are doing their usual round of promotions, including some (pun intended) out-of-the-box appearances.

Vanity Fair decided to put Chadwick Boseman and Danai Gurira in an interesting position in order to promote Black Panther. Foregoing the usual round of questions, the two cast members instead had to stick their hands in a "fear box". While a few items were merely toys and stuffed animals, a variety of furry, feathery, and scaly creatures were also included. You can watch the video in the space above.

Though Boseman takes the task in stride, Gurira isn't thrilled about the idea from the onset. Therefore, fans get to watch Michone from The Walking Dead worry over a bowl of grapes before peeking in and discovering the truth. While the video doesn't add anything to Black Panther itself, it's always enjoyable watching celebrities get pranked.

With Black Panther on the verge of hitting theaters, it's clear the film will be smashing a number of barriers and reaching all sorts of milestones. Black Panther IMAX pre-sales are Marvel's highest yet, as it seems there's no record the film can't beat. Black Panther is even 2018's most tweeted about movie, which is no small thing given the likes of Solo: A Star Wars StoryAvengers: Infinity War, and Deadpool 2 will all be arriving in a few months.

As non-traditional comic book movie audiences gear up to see Black Panther opening weekend, and with the Monday holiday helping to boost sales, the film is poised to be one of Marvel's biggest solo film debuts to date. And for fans of T'Challa, Infinity War will provide even more of the king and his kingdom later this year.
