Ahead of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever's release, producer Nate Moore confirms that Black Panther 3 ideas have already been discussed. After being introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Captain America: Civil War, T'Challa returned for a solo film, 2018's Black Panther, which found Chadwick Boseman's character returning to Wakanda to assume the throne following his father's death, but is challenged by his cousin, Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan). In addition to its cultural significance, Black Panther grossed over $1 billion at the box office and was the first superhero film to receive a Best Picture nomination at the Oscars.

Following a long and private battle with colon cancer, Boseman passed away in August 2020, and the tragic news came as a massive shock to the world. As a result, returning Black Panther director Ryan Coogler and his co-writer Joe Robert Cole reworked the sequel to lay T'Challa to rest in the MCU and shift its focus to the women of Wakanda, including Shuri (Letitia Wright), Nakia (Lupita Nyong'o), Okoye (Danai Gurira), and Ramonda (Angela Bassett), as they protect the nation from invading forces led by Namor, the king of Talokan. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever early reactions have been united in their praise of the moving Marvel sequel.

Now, with two weeks to go until the sequel debuts in theaters, one of the producers behind Wakanda Forever is addressing the possibility of a third installment. In an interview with Collider, Moore reveals that Black Panther 3 ideas have already been discussed, but they are waiting to see how audiences receive Wakanda Forever before making a final decision. Read what Moore says below:

That's a great question. To be honest, this is not me trying to not answer the question. We really want to see how audiences receive the film, and I think Ryan's really interested to see how the film plays before we decide. There are certainly ideas we've floated around of what a third film could be if we get to make it. But until the movie comes out, we're a bit superstitious in that way. We don't want to count our chickens, because you never know what's going to happen.

What Black Panther 3 Could Be About

Moore's comments about Black Panther 3 ideas being floated indicate the threequel is only in the very early stages of development and has not officially been ordered yet. Still, this has to be a good sign for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which is garnering positive early reactions and is projected to have a huge opening weekend for the MCU. Other than a possible Black Panther 3, Wakanda Forever is introducing Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams and will set up her upcoming solo series on Disney+, Ironheart. There are also several series set in Wakanda in development for Disney+.

With Wakanda Forever seemingly introducing Shuri as the next Black Panther, a third movie could potentially continue focusing on her experience as a female Black Panther. Considering the rumors regarding Doctor Doom appearing in Black Panther 2, which Moore has debunked, there has been some speculation that Black Panther 3 will focus on Doom invading Wakanda. There is also a chance a third film will introduce a variant of T'Challa, which many fans have called for in recent months. Whatever Black Panther 3 is potentially about, the world of Wakanda has become an important fixture of the MCU, and it is here to stay for the foreseeable future.
