The first Black Panther: Wakanda Forever trailer has debuted. The highly-anticipated sequel to 2018's Black Panther has long been in the works and, after the tragic passing of acclaimed actor Chadwick Boseman, has taken on extra weight as Marvel ensures they honor the legacy of both T'Challa and the actor behind him. Ryan Coogler is returning to direct the sequel and much of the original cast will be in front of the camera once again, with Angela Bassett, Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, and Letitia Wright all reprising their roles.

Prior to the debut of the trailer, little was known about the plot of the film save for what could be deduced from real-life events. With Coogler and the cast commenting on how the film would honor Boseman's legacy, it has long been presumed that someone in T'Challa's family would serve as his successor as the Black Panther. How this would tie into the conflict with Atlantis remains unclear. In addition, new cast members were announced, with Michaela Coel and Tenoch Huerta reportedly joining the cast.

Now, audiences have gotten their first glimpse at the upcoming Marvel movie with the first Black Panther: Wakanda Forever trailer. The trailer follows T'Challa's remaining family as they appear to cope with his loss. Elsewhere, conflict is brewing and the Black Panther 2 trailer gives audiences the first glimpse at the MCU's version of Atlanteans. The first look at Huerta as Namor can also be seen and much of the action takes place in and around water. Check out the trailer below:

From the looks of the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever trailer, it seems that the plot of the film will be two-pronged, with one branch following the Wakandan royal family as they cope with the loss of T'Challa and the other tracking the rising conflict between the African nation and Atlantis. How all of this figures into who will be T'Challa's Black Panther successor remains to be seen, but the fact that the trailer doesn't outright reveal it means that it could be a major talking point of the film or that even multiple people could be deemed worthy of carrying on the mantle.

While much of the plot specifics remain a mystery, one thing can be gleaned from the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever trailer - it will be just as visually stunning as the first film. From Coogler's sweeping visuals of Wakanda to the underwater seascapes of Atlantis, the Black Panther sequel looks to carry on the director's unique take on the MCU. With Black Panther the only superhero movie ever to be nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards, it seems possible that Wakanda Forever could enter the awards conversation like the 2018 movie. With just a few months to go until its release, the first Black Panther: Wakanda Forever trailer is just the beginning of what audiences can expect to see from the film.
