Henry Golding reveals he hasn't spoken to Marvel about playing Namor in Black Panther 2. Golding's star has been on the rise over the past few years since he made his big screen debut as Nick Young in 2018's hit Crazy Rich Asians. Since then, he's appeared in a handful of films, the most recent being this weekend's Guy Ritchie-directed The GentlemenHe'll next star in the G.I. Joe spin-off/reboot Snake Eyes, which is currently in production and set for release in October of this year.

Black Panther 2 was officially confirmed last year at the D23 Expo, and since then there has been very little news about the project. The most recent update came in October, with the reveal that returning writer-director Ryan Coogler has only begun outlining the story. Considering how Black Panther 2 won't hit theaters until 2022, this isn't surprising. However, that hasn't stopped fans from wondering who the film's villain will be, with many putting their money on Namor the Sub-Mariner. This led to several fan castings for the role, with Golding being a popular pick.

While speaking to MTV News to promote The Gentlemen, Golding was asked about the possibility of him playing Namor in the MCU. A lifelong comic book fan, Golding revealed Namor is one of his favorite Marvel characters because "he's not a villain, he's not a hero, he's an anti-hero in much of a sense." Golding's enthusiasm for the character was apparent, but when outright asked if he'd spoken to Marvel about the role, he was quick to say with a laugh, "No, of course not." He did seem open to the possibility, however.

While Golding is hardly fans' only pick for Namor, he's certainly one of the more popular ones. There has been fan art depicting what Golding would look like as Namor, indicating there's a definite interest in having him join the cast. With the script only in the early stages, however, there's still a chance Golding could be approached down the line once Black Panther 2 moves into pre-production.

Of course, there is also a chance Namor won't be featured in Black Panther 2 at all, but fans are expecting him to make an appearance in the MCU at some point. A throwaway line in Avengers: Endgame seemed to indicate he exists within the MCU, though some real confirmation would certainly be appreciated. Black Panther 2 is so far down the line for Marvel that it'll likely be a while before real information emerges. Until then, fans have plenty of Marvel movies to tide them over, and they can continue to see Golding in other films in preparation for his possible casting.
