Black Panther: Wakanda Forever director Ryan Coogler comments on how Namor's power level compares to the likes of Chris Hemsworth's Thor. After the success of the original Black Panther in 2018, Coogler returns to helm the highly anticipated sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Marking the end of MCU's Phase 4, the film sees the nation of Wakanda grieving the death of Chadwick Boseman's King T'Challa's while responding to the emergence of a new power on the world stage. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is confirmed to feature a new character taking up the mantle of the Black Panther following Boseman's tragic passing in 2020.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever sees a number of familiar faces return, including Letitia Wright's Shuri, Danai Gurira's Okoye, Lupita Nyong'o's Nakia, Angela Bassett's Ramonda, and Winston Duke's M'Baku, but also introduces several new ones. One of the most notable introductions in the film in Tenoch Huerta's Namor, who will serve as the central antagonist. Promotional material and trailers for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever have already teased Namor's comics-accurate design while also showing off some of his impressive abilities, which include the power of flight.

In an interview with Marvel.com, director Ryan Coogler discusses Namor's strength level in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever as it compares to other MCU heroes. The director makes no secret of the fact that Namor will be one of the most powerful beings in the MCU, affirming that he gives both Thor and Mark Ruffalo's Hulk a run for their money. Check out Coogler's full comment below:

[There’s] no equal in terms of his capabilities, being able to breathe underwater and breathe at high altitudes and walk around on land. He’s incredibly strong, he’s as strong as Thor, and if he’s around enough water he can be as strong as the Hulk.

What Namor's Strength Means For His MCU Future After Wakanda Forever

Tenoch Huerta as Namor in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Huerta himself has already confirmed that his character isn't a straight-up villain in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, but is more of an anti-hero, meaning Namor could very well return in future MCU films in a more heroic capacity. Despite his potential to become an important hero moving forward, his immense strength means that the Black Panther sequel may not be the last time he butts heads with others in the MCU. It's currently unclear what the future holds for Hemsworth's Thor and Ruffalo's Hulk, but Namor being on par with both of them in terms of raw power level certainly makes some kind of confrontation between the parties seem more likely.

In addition to serving as the antagonist in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Namor has also been confirmed to be a mutant. With mutant and X-Men teases becoming more common in the MCU in recent years, it's also possible that Huerta's hero will eventually play an important role in whatever mutant storylines come into play in the years ahead. Although Namor's MCU future remains unknown, Coogler's most recent comment certainly suggests Shuri, Okoye, Nakia, and the other residents of Wakanda will have their work cut out for them when it comes to battling Namor in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
