The Marvel Cinematic Universe will continue exploring T’Challa a.k.a. Black Panther’s story in Black Panther 2, and here’s every character returning for this new adventure. The first three phases of the MCU, collectively known as the “Infinity Saga”, came to an end in 2019 with Spider-Man: Far From Home after reaching their peak with Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. The latter was the final adventure for most of the original Avengers, but many other heroes are set to return in a near future, among those Black Panther.

Following his introduction in Captain America: Civil War, T’Challa (played by Chadwick Boseman) and the citizens of Wakanda had their big moment in 2018 in Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther. The film centered around T’Challa, now king of Wakanda, who came across with Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan), a family related enemy who threatened to begin a global revolution by abandoning Wakanda’s isolationist policies. Black Panther was a box office success, breaking numerous records, and was also very well received by viewers and critics, who praised its story, performances, costume design, and direction.

T’Challa – along with Shuri (Letitia Wright), Okoye (Danai Gurira), and M’Baku (Winston Duke) – joined the battle against Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, though only Okoye and M’Baku survived the snap. After the Hulk brought back those who vanished in Avengers: Endgame, they all joined forces once more with the rest of the heroes in the MCU to defeat Thanos and his armies once and for all. Thankfully, a sequel to Black Panther has already been confirmed and given a May 2022 release date, so viewers will reunite with T’Challa and company soon. Although there are no plot details yet (nor a villain officially announced), there are some characters that will be back for Black Panther 2, while others are yet to be confirmed.

T’Challa/Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman)

T'Challa on the throne

Of course, it can’t be a Black Panther film without the title character – unless, of course, someone else takes the mantle, but for now it’s still T’Challa who’s leading Wakanda. Chadwick Boseman has a five-film contract with Marvel, so his return was a no-brainer. By the end of Black Panther, T’Challa decided to reveal Wakanda’s true nature to the world, and the MCU has yet to show how the rest of the world has reacted to that. Last time T’Challa was on the big screen, he fought against Thanos and company and was later seen attending Tony Stark’s funeral. Viewers aren’t aware of the consequences and impact that the snap and the five-year time jump had on Wakanda, so Black Panther will surely have a lot of work to do in the sequel.

Shuri (Letitia Wright)

T’Challa’s younger sister and the genius behind pretty much everything he uses will be back in Black Panther 2. Shuri will surely continue helping her brother by designing suits and weapons, as well as other heroes as she did with Bucky Barnes and tried to with Vision, as she attempted to extract the Mind Stone from his forehead without killing him, only to be interrupted by Thanos’ invasion. Shuri has been confirmed to be the smartest person in the world, even more than Tony Stark, so there’s a lot more to see from her.

Okoye (Danai Gurira)

Okoye Danai Gurira

Okoye is the general of the Dora Milaje and one of the closest people to T’Challa. She has the utmost respect for T’Challa and Wakanda, and led the Dora Milaje to fight against Killmonger to save Wakanda. Okoye returned in Avengers: Infinity War and was one of the survivors of the snap, and witnessed T’Challa’s vanishing in the battlefield. She joined the surviving heroes in Avengers: Endgame and used Wakanda’s resources to monitor issues in and around Africa, and later joined the rest of the MCU heroes in the final battle against Thanos. By the end of the film, she resumed serving T’Challa, and was also seen at Tony Stark’s funeral. Naturally, Okoye will be back in Black Panther 2 and will continue to work alongside T’Challa.

Ramonda (Angela Bassett)

Black Panther Queen Ramonda

Queen Ramonda is the mother of T’Challa and Shuri (contrary to the comics, where she’s the birth mother of Shuri and stepmother of T’Challa), who becomes one of T’Challa’s advisors following his father’s death in Captain America: Civil War. She didn’t have a big role in Black Panther and was briefly seen in Avengers: Endgame, right at the end, where she reunited with her children in Wakanda, so hopefully, Black Panther 2 will give her more screen time, allowing viewers to learn more about her and her role in Wakanda.

Everett Ross (Martin Freeman)

Everett Ross interrogates Klaue in Black Panther

Everett Ross is a member of the CIA, and unlike his comic book version, he’s being depicted as a capable agent rather than just comic relief. Just like T’Challa, Ross was introduced in Captain America: Civil War, where he helped apprehend Bucky Barnes after he was framed for bombing the Vienna International Center, where King T’Chaka was killed. By the end of the film, Ross supervised the incarceration of Helmut Zemo, who was captured by Black Panther in Siberia. Ross came back in Black Panther, where he was taken to Wakanda for treatment after taking a bullet to the spine protecting Nakia during an attack by Killmonger. Ross was healed and in return he briefed T’Challa and company on the history of Killmonger, and later helped them stop vibranium weapons from being taken out of the country. Everett Ross has a close relationship with Black Panther and Shuri in the comics, so it’s not surprising that he will be back in Black Panther 2.
