Lupita Nyong'o celebrates Black Panther 2's title with a hilarious Wakanda Forever video. A Black Panther sequel has been the source of fervent speculation ever since the tragic passing of Chadwick Boseman last year, and there have been doubts it would even happen. Boseman starred as T’Challa in four MCU movies, namely his own solo outing, Black Panther, in 2018, which still stands as the highest-grossing superhero movie of all time outside of the Avengers series. Marvel reacted respectfully to the news of Boseman’s passing and announced Black Panther 2 would not recast T’Challa to honor the late actor’s legacy.

In addition to T’Challa not being recast, Black Panther 2 will be reshaped to respect Boseman’s death, according to Lupita Nyong'o herself. The Kenyan-Mexican actress joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2018’s Black Panther as Nakia, T'Challa's love interest in the film. Nakia is expected back for the sequel, along with T'Challa's younger sister, Shuri, who some have speculated the Black Panther mantle could eventually be passed onto, much like Marvel’s transition from Steve Rogers to Sam Wilson as Captain America. On the other hand, Michael B. Jordan is not expected back after Killmonger’s death at the end of the first film and Daniel Kaluuya also cast doubt about him returning as W’Kabi.

Earlier this week it was announced that the highly anticipated sequel to Black Panther will be subtitled Wakanda Forever and release in July 2022. Now, Lupita Nyong'o has reacted to the news. In a 10-second video posted to her Twitter, the actress hilariously shouts, "Wakanda forever!” after inhaling helium. Nyong'o is noticeably holding back laughter throughout the video, before cracking up at the end. Check it out below:

In the fictional world of Wakanda, the phrase “Wakanda forever” is used as a salute to the citizens of the East African country. Since the release of Black Panther in 2018, Wakanda has become more than just a fictional place, and the phrase has now been popularized as a chant saluting Black excellence and pride all around the world.

Other than Ryan Coogler returning as writer-director for the sequel that will honor Boseman’s death, very little is known about the project. The title, Wakanda Forever, indicates that Black Panther 2 will focus on the previously unexplored aspects of Wakanda itself, such as its people, subcultures, and lore.
