Black Panther 2 is hoping to begin filming in early 2021. After the original Black Panther shattered box office records and became the first comic book movie nominated for Best Picture, it was inevitable a follow up would happen. Marvel officially confirmed Black Panther 2 at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, later dating it for a May 2022 release. Ryan Coogler is returning to write and direct, making this the first time in his career he's helmed a sequel to one of his previous films.

In wake of the coronavirus pandemic, Disney (like every other studio) significantly altered their upcoming release slate. This included shuffling around most of the upcoming Phase 4 titles, but Black Panther 2 was able to stay in its original window and is still on track to debut in 2022. Now, fans may know when Coogler and crew will start rolling the cameras.

According to a post found on Production List (via Reddit user smoove4254), Black Panther 2 will start shooting in March 2021 in Australia. Check out the post in the space below:

With the ongoing health crisis, several Hollywood productions were forced to shut down indefinitely, and even as countries begin to open back up, major blockbusters remain on hold. That being said, the hope is things will already be safe by the time 2021 rolls around and Black Panther 2 can move forward as planned. Considering there are no delays on that front, the film should have plenty of time to meet its scheduled release date. Securing Marvel's prime May slot is an indication of the sub-franchise's clout and the expectations the studio has. If everything goes off without a hitch, Black Panther 2 will be kicking off the 2022 summer movie season and will most definitely be one of the year's biggest hits.

Since Black Panther 2's presumed start date is so far away, it will likely be some time before fans learn more concrete details, like the cast. Last October, Coogler was early in the process of writing the script, suggesting he was still ironing out the story and figuring out where he wants the narrative to go. There's a chance Black Panther 2 could be showcased at the upcoming At-Home edition of San Diego Comic-Con this summer, but it remains to be seen how that is handled and what major announcements studios want to make. Regardless, hopefully by late 2020 viewers have a better idea of what's in store as Black Panther 2 revs up to begin production. This is one of the more anticipated offerings Marvel has coming up, so there's a lot of excitement to see how the project takes shape.
