The Falcon and The Winter Soldier star, Anthony Mackie, comments on whether he'll appear in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Following the tragic passing of Chadwick Boseman in 2020, Marvel Studios has slowly regrouped to figure out what to do with the Black Panther franchise without its star. The studio has confirmed that T'Challa will not be recast for Black Panther 2, leaving writer/director, Ryan Coogler, to rework the story without Wakanda's king.

There hasn't been much news on Black Panther 2 since Boseman's death, but all those involved with the movie believe it will honor his legacy. Marvel Studios did recently confirm that the sequel's official title is Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which seems to be a perfect choice given the circumstances. The movie is scheduled to come out in July 2022, and many fans are intrigued to see how it handles a story without T'Challa and how it is connected to the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Due to the connectivity of the MCU, fans are always wondering what characters could appear in other movies or, now, Disney+ shows. Mackie is fresh off starring in Marvel's second Disney+ series, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, and was a close friend of Chadwick Boseman. During an interview with ET Online, Mackie was asked about the possibility of Sam Wilson making an appearance in Black Panther 2. He jokingly responded by saying, "I do have a Wakanda visa, so I can go to Wakanda as much as I want. I have a passport and a Wakanda visa and I'm vaccinated, so I can go to Wakanda." Mackie didn't confirm or deny that he'll appear in the sequel, but he wants to make sure that his appearance would be done respectfully if it happens. Read more of what Mackie said below:

It's strange now, because of the amount of respect and admiration I have for Chad, having known him for so long. You just want to do everything the right way. I don't know what that answer is. I don't know what that right thing is. I just want to make sure that it's done right for him.

The circumstances of making Black Panther: Wakanda Forever are far different from the first film for a variety of reasons, but even the first movie had other MCU characters appear. Klaue (Andy Serkis) appeared after Avengers: Age of Ultron, while Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) returned after Captain America: Civil War. Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) even was featured in Black Panther's post-credits scene. Everett Ross is confirmed to be returning for Black Panther 2, so Marvel could be considering having the MCU's new Captain America appear too in some capacity.

Without knowing the story that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will tell, it is impossible to know whether or not there is a right fit for Mackie. That said, Marvel Studios has already tied his Captain America to the Black Panther franchise. In addition to carrying a new vibranium shield, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier revealed that the Wakandans created his Captain America suit, which included vibranium wings. Sam could travel to Wakanda to thank them for the suit and become involved in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever's story that way. For now, we'll have to wait and see if Mackie does actually appear.
