The yearly Call of Duty title is practically a tradition in video games these days, and rumors are hinting at the reveal of the next game as Black Ops: Cold War. The Black Ops series, of course, started in the Cold War with the first game, and protagonist Alex Mason.

Black Ops releasing in 2020 would be an interesting change in how the series has been scheduling things recently, however. Activision has three studios that cycle through development; Infinity Ward, Treyarch, and Sledgehammer Games. Sledgehammer released WWII in 2017, followed by Black Ops 4 and then Modern Warfare. Schedule-wise it should be Sledgehammer up, but rumors indicate that the next game will once again be Black Ops, which is developed by Treyarch.

There's still very little that's known about the next Call of Duty, but a few potential details have trickled out. Call of Duty games typically release at the end of Fall, so Activision still has time to show things off. With that, here's what you need to know about the Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War rumor.

Black Ops: Cold War Rumors

The first mention of Black Ops: Cold War popped up on Twitter, by a leaker named Okami. Shortly after that, Eurogamer confirmed that they had heard the same thing via their own sources. Eurogamer claims that it's a similar situation to 2019's Modern Warfare, with a soft reboot of Black Ops that goes back to the events of the first game. There's little information known besides that, although a new rumor does suggest the new Call of Duty could be announced at Sony's now-delayed PS5 event. Most likely Activision would want to announce the new Black Ops in June or July, to allow for ample marketing time before the game's release.

Call of Duty Warzone Bunker 11

In Modern Warfare's Warzone mode mysterious bunkers have started opening across the map. Some of the bunkers are littered with very Black Ops-style technology, old computers, and the like. One even has the frame of the iconic RC-XD killstreak, as seen below.

The bunkers and Easter Eggs seem to be ramping up to a reveal for Black Ops: Cold War, but only an official reveal will prove if that's really Infinity Ward's intent in Warzone.
