Warning: Contains SPOILERS for The Boys season 3, episode 7!

The origin of Black Noir scars in The Boys season 3 raises a big question about how his healing powers actually work. As one of the main members of The Seven, Black Noir is always lurking in the story of Prime Video's superhero show. However, much of his backstory and character still remain a mystery. The Boys season 3 has shown Black Noir heal from his nut-induced coma from season 2 and return to being an active member of the team. However, the arrival of his old Payback team leader Soldier Boy also brought the silent Supe to go off the grid.

In addition to Black Noir's role in working with Homelander to protect The Seven and Vought in the present day, The Boys season 3 includes new revelations about his past. Flashbacks have shown Black Noir working with Payback and helping orchestrate the team's betrayal of Soldier Boy. The Boys season 3, episode 7 confirms this was not Black Noir's decision alone, as Vought CEO Stan Edgar proposed the attack and handing Vought's biggest Supe to the Russians. It is through flashbacks like these and Black Noir's cartoon imagination that the origins of his facial scars that left him unable to talk were shown.

The Boys season 3 reveals that Black Noir's scars come from his fight with Soldier Boy in 1984, as Jensen Ackles' character burns his face on the hood of a car. This is followed by Soldier Boy repeatedly bashing Black Noir's head, with even part of his brain coming out according to the imaginary cartoon depiction of these events. However, viewers will likely wonder why Black Noir's healing powers have not helped him recover from these injuries. He has healed from a variety of severe injuries throughout the duration of The Boys, but Black Noir's scars are too severe for even him to overcome.

Black Noir's Healing Powers Explained

Fritzy Klevans Destine as Black Noir injured in The Boys

Black Noir's powers in The Boys are vast, as he has a variety of superhuman physical gifts. The show has primarily focused on his skills as a fighter and highlighted how his inability to feel pain comes in handy. The strength of Black Noir's healing powers has been teased in the past, too. Viewers have already seen how he can survive explosions, gunshots, and so on. His lack of feeling pain helps in all of these instances, but it is Black Noir's regenerative healing factor that ensures he lives. Based on what The Boys has presented, the silent Vought Supe can heal from just about any injury within a few hours, or a few days at most.

Since Black Noir's scars are not fully healed more than 30 years after Soldier Boy's attack, it is quite clear that there are limits to his healing abilities. Similar to how the bacta tank in Star Wars can heal most injuries but not major scarring like Darth Vader's, it now appears that Black Noir's powers work roughly the same way in The Boys. It is also possible that losing part of his brain fighting Soldier Boy limited what he can come back from. Otherwise, Vought might have put a limit on Black Noir's healing just in case they needed to take him down and his nut allergy would not do the trick.
