According to a new report, Black Mirror season 6 is officially in development at Netflix. First released in 2011, Black Mirror quickly became a hit on Netflix, comprising a series of Twilight-Zone-like standalone episodes, each exploring a different aspect of techno-paranoia in the modern world. The popular series has since aired four additional seasons of varying episode lengths and even saw an interactive feature film, Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, released in 2018.

With its fifth season having been released on Netflix in 2019, many fans wondered whether the show would return for another outing. Unlike previous seasons, Black Mirror season five featured only three episodes, "Striking Vipers," "Smithereens," and "Rick, Jack, and Ashley Too." The show has featured appearances from a number of well-known actors, including Hayley Atwell, Daniel Kaluuya, Jon Hamm, Miley Cyrus, Jesse Plemons, and Jodie Whitaker. Season 5's "Striking Vipers" even saw MCU actor Anthony Mackie, who plays Falcon, appear opposite Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who recently played Morpheus in The Matrix Resurrections.

According to a new report from VarietyBlack Mirror season 6 is currently in the works at Netflix. While details regarding the individual episode stories remain unknown, the upcoming season is expected to be even more cinematic than past installments, with each episode being treated essentially as its own individual film. Although season 6 is definitely on its way, there's no word yet on a potential release date.

With each season of Black Mirror boasting greater production values than the last, it's likely that season 6 will see the series elevate itself even further in that regard. It's unknown who will star in Black Mirror's sixth season (or how many episodes it will feature), but, if past episodes are anything to go by, fans will probably be treated to appearances from a handful of well-regarded and famous actors. Although at the start of the pandemic, creator Charlie Brooker previously cast doubt on the show's future due to its cynical approach to technology and its often downbeat endings, time has evidently allowed for Brooker to change his tune, with Black Mirror once more having a place in the streaming landscape of today.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Black Mirror and if the upcoming sixth season will be the last, but the show has proven popular with audiences and critics since its inception more than ten years ago. As technology becomes increasingly intertwined in the day-to-day life of human beings and continues to evolve in new and unexpected ways, Black Mirror continues to explore the potential dark sides of this new way of life. With a premise that only becomes more pertinent with each passing day and with each new technological innovation, it's possible that Black Mirror season 6 will not be its last.
