Throughout the course of Valheim players will track down and acquire dozens of different types of resources and materials to help them on their journey. These resources can in turn be used to craft buildings to shelter in, new stations to create better weapons and tools, and even boats that allow the player to go sailing on the high seas. It is incredibly important that players get their hands on as many of these resources as possible.

Valheim's Plot & Story Explained Head Art

Getting their hands on Black Metal can actually prove to be very difficult for most players. Unlike the majority of metals in the game like Copper or Tin, Black Metal can't be mined from deposits using the pickaxe, but rather must be collected enemies instead. Players will need to track down and fight against Fulings in the game, which are a goblin-like tribe of creatures that are incredibly powerful. By defeating these enemies players will acquire Black Metal Scraps that can be crafted into Black Metal.

Before even thinking about hunting down Fulings, players will want to get their hands on a full set of Iron Armor as well as the best weapons available to them. Then if it all possible they will want to sneak up and dispatch any that they come across one at a time. Fighting more than one Fuling at a time is a death wish, so players should just flee if they get themselves in trouble. These creatures can only be found in the Plains region, which most players won't come across until late in the game.

Once players have gotten their hands on some Black Metal Scraps they will then need to craft themselves a Blast Furnace, which is the only station capable of crafting Black Metal Bars. They will need to get their hands on 20 pieces of Stone, five Surtling Cores, 10 Iron Bars, twenty Fine Wood, and the Artisan Table. Once this has been crafted all the player has to do is put Black Metal Scraps inside along with a fuel source to create Black Metal Bars.
