Warning: SPOILERS for Black Clover chapter 338A minor moment in Black Clover is subtly suggesting that Sister Lily may not have actually betrayed Asta even though the villain Lucius Zogratis manipulated her soul.

Fans were startled when Lucius used soul manipulation to transform Sister Lily into a brainwashed Paladin during his short invasion of the Clover Kingdom. While ostensibly under his command, Sister Lily ostensibly killed Black Clover hero Asta. Lucius even confirmed that her actions did in fact get rid of the magicless mage. And yet, fans still held onto hope that she may have actually just made it appear as though she killed him to satisfy Lucius. Asta's later arrival in Hino Country created the impression that she may have transported him there, but, until then, there was nothing in the manga that suggested that she knew about Hino or had any connection to the country. So upon the later introduction of Yami's childhood friend Ryuya Ryudo and his odd "eye" powers, it was assumed that he probably had something to do with rescuing Asta, not Sister Lily.

But chapter 338 of Black Clover by mangaka Yūki Tabata just hinted that Sister Lily may actually have some connection to Hino Country. When Ryuya Ryudo shows Asta around Black Clover's mysterious Hino, Asta finds a vender selling nomotatoes and wonders ecstatically how the village of Hage's specialty could be there in a completely foreign country. The moment is fleeting and confined to one cell, but it's enough to catch readers' attention.

Asta finds that Hino Country has Hage's nomotatoes in Black Clover chapter 338

From day one, Asta has been talking about the wonderfulness of nomotatoes and rejoices whenever his fellow Magic Knights have the opportunity to try them for themselves. And it's always Sister Lily and Asta's foster father Orsi Orfai who prepare special nomotato dishes. Since Sister Lily's past is pretty much a mystery, could she actually be from Hino and brought the nomotatoes to Hage with her? Black Clover readers first became suspicious of Sister Lily's background during her battle against a possessed Purple Orca member when he randomly attacked her village. When she wields her magic, her opponent notes that she must be a noble, creating the impression that Sister Lily may have run from her past by hiding on the outskirts of the Clover Kingdom. It makes more sense that she's from Hino rather than one of the Four Kingdoms since readers haven't heard anything about a missing noble from any of them. Hino is also described as being far away from these Four Kingdoms (since Nacht can't sense Asta), so if Sister Lily was trying to escape her former life to start anew, running away to a far off land like Hage would help her stay hidden.

If Sister Lily does indeed come from Hino Country then it's now that much more likely that she may have transported Asta there instead of trying to eliminate him for Lucius. Why else would mangaka Tabata go out of his way to show Asta freaking out over Hino having nomotatoes? That, or another possibility could be that Sister Lily may have subconsciously saved Asta. Regardless, Black Clover is dropping significant hints that Sister Lily might not be completely lost, for now.
