Marvel Comics has revealed the truth behind Black Cat's Infinity Stone heist and it's more tragic than previously believed. In Giant-Sized Black Cat #1, Felicia Hardy reveals she assembled the Infinity Stone-wielding heroes in an effort to find a way to cure her mother's terminal cancer. In the end, her plan is successful, even if it lands her in prison.

Black Cat has assembled three current wielders of the Infinity Stones for a mission that involved curing a dying A.I.M. scientist. Felicia Hardy's client was said to be a big player in the Marvel Universe, with Doctor Doom being named the likely villain who hired her. However, in her attempts to get the Infinity Stones, she's been met with challenges from Nick Fury and Nighthawk, the latter of whom wants to use the stones to restore the Heroes Reborn reality. Now, Marvel Comics is revealing the very human reason Black Cat wanted the Infinity Stones in the first place.

In Giant-Sized Black Cat #1 by Marvel Comics, Black Cat's final mission involving the Infinity Stones is in full swing, as she comes up with a plan for the stone-wielding villain's Star, Quantum, and Overtime. Black Cat then gets Star, who wields the Reality Stone, to use her powers to cure their target, Monica Rappaccini, of her cancer. However, it turns out not to Rappaccini who Star cured, but Black Cat's dying mother. Naturally, Star isn't happy to learn she's been played.

Black Cat Infinity Stones Marvel

In a monologue, Black Cat reveals Doctor Doom and Monica Rappaccini were never real parts of her plan. Instead, she figured out that the only way to prevent her mother from dying of cancer was to get the Infinity Stones somehow and change reality. By assembling the Infinity Stone-embedded heroes and promising them safety from Nick Fury, she successfully got Star to cure her mom's cancer. It's quite the cunning con by Black Cat. The comic ends with Black Cat in prison, which surely won't be able to keep the great thief locked up for too long.

The entire Black Cat and Infinite Destinies crossovers made for quite the fun Marvel Comics storyline. The reveal Black Cat wanted the Infinity Stones to cure her mom's cancer is a satisfying twist that ends the arc in an exciting and heartwarming way. Unlike most Marvel villains who want the Infinity Stones to shape reality in their own image, Black Cat just wanted to save her mom. Felicia Hardy proved she's Marvel's greatest thief by pulling off the Infinity Stone heist. Readers can check out the finale of Black Cat's Infinity Stone journey as Giant-Sized Black Cat is in comic book stores now.
