Could SDCC see the announcement of Black Canary joining the DCEU? There's a lot of excitement for the shared universe off the back of Wonder Woman, which was a critical and box office success, and with Justice League on the horizon and rumors suggesting Warner Bros. will start releasing three to four DCEU movies per year, hopes are high for WB's panel at Comic-Con in a couple of weeks.

WB already has new solo films and team-up projects in various states of development, including The BatmanGotham City SirensBatgirlWonder Woman 2ShazamThe Flashand the currently-filming Aquaman. Fans have long been speculating about which additional characters might appear in the DCEU films already in progress, as well as which comic heroes might get to headline their own adventures on the big screen.

Adding fuel to that speculation is Katheryn Winnick, whom TV viewers may know best as Lagertha on Vikings. In an Instagram story reposted on Twitter, which you can view below, the actress promises that a "secret project" she's currently working on will be announced at San Diego Comic-Con this year.

The announcement itself doesn't specify anything about that secret project, but Winnick has long expressed a desire to play Black Canary. In May of this year, she tweeted fan-made art illustrating how she'd look as the character, which now could be viewed as an early hint to the upcoming news at SDCC. Warner Bros. will be featuring Justice League and Aquaman at its Comic-Con presentation, and it's likely there will be some exciting reveals about other DCEU projects in the works.

There's been no official talk yet about a possible role for Dinah Lance/Black Canary, and it seems unlikely that she'll be getting a solo film. Typically associated with the Green Arrow, as she is in The CW's Arrowverse, Black Canary was a founding member of the Justice League of America, and could potentially turn up in any of the planned DCEU films. With the immense popularity of their big screen versions of Wonder Woman and Harley Quinn, WB may decide to increase the female presence in Batgirl or Gotham City Sirens - the latter already featuring Harley, Poison Ivy, and Catwoman.

Many fans have already fully embraced the idea of Winnick as Black Canary, so a confirmation of the role would generate a lot of excitement. Warner Bros.' presentation at SDCC takes place on July 22, so as Winnick says, it's only two weeks until her "secret project" is revealed.
