Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has been sharing his diet and workouts in preparation to play Black Adam, and he's just shared another video on Instagram detailing an upper-body split. Johnson has been attached to the role of Black Adam for over a decade and the character was initially supposed to appear in Shazam! and Suicide Squad, although neither appearance ended up happening. Instead, filming on a solo Black Adam movie is currently set to begin this spring.

Originally scheduled for a December 2021 release, Black Adam lost that date when Warner Bros. announced in October that it was making major changes to the upcoming DCEU slate, and no new release date has been announced. However, instead of delaying production with no new release date scheduled, filming currently remains on track to begin this spring. In the character's feature film debut, Black Adam will be the head of the Justice Society of America. Johnson will be joined by Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher and Aldis Hodge as Hawkman.

In his most recent Instagram video, Johnson details the training he's done for Black Adam. He says he worked out twice that day, including "morning cardio on an empty stomach." His upper-body split involves four exercises focusing on the chest muscles and another four exercises targeting the triceps, and he does three sets of each with minimal rest between sets. Although he does not include demonstrations of proper form for the exercises he describes, he does caution fans to "push yourself to the limit but be smart with the weight. No ego training." Johnson has released other videos and images on social media of his preparation for the role. In a post-workout image shared at the beginning of February, Johnson appears drenched in sweat with bulging quadriceps; in another training photo from December, he is shown in a gym wearing a black t-shirt with the Black Adam logo. In his most recent post, he references all the work he's putting in to prepare for the role, saying it's "very hard but it’s why we play the game. Plus, if it comes easy - it’s boring."

Considering DC Comics has redesigned Black Adam to look more like Johnson, the Rock really doesn't need to do anything to change his appearance for the role. But since this has been such a passion project for him for so long, it's understandable that he wants to be at his absolute physical peak for it. And if he's already been training for the role for a few months, filming must definitely be starting soon, barring a pandemic-related setback. So after multiple delays, Black Adam could finally be coming to theaters and streaming services.
