Dwayne Johnson weighs in on who he thinks would win in a fight between Black Adam and Superman, saying it depends on which actor is playing the other hero. After numerous delays, Black Adam is finally slated to release in theaters later this fall. The film, which is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, tells the story of how Johnson's character was bestowed with the powers of ancient Egyptian gods nearly 5,000 years ago before eventually being set free into the modern world to unleash his own twisted form of justice.

Since Black Adam was first announced, Johnson has made no secret of the fact that he expects his character to disrupt the hierarchy of the DCEU. As more promotional material for the film continues to be released teasing Black Adam's immense power, many fans have called for a showdown between Johnson's character and Henry Cavill's Superman. Both Johnson and a producer on the film have acknowledged this fan demand and expressed that they're working behind the scenes to make this become a reality. Johnson himself has also teased that Superman might even show up in Black Adam.

As part of the Black Adam presentation during the Warner Bros. Theatrical panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, Johnson has again addressed the possibility of a faceoff between his hero and Superman, discussing who he thinks would win. According to Johnson, it depends on who is playing Clark Kent/ Superman. Johnson, unfortunately, doesn't elaborate on his statement, but his comment acknowledges the possibility that Cavill may not return as Superman again in the DCEU.

Now, it's possible that Johnson is just speaking more generally about Superman, acknowledging that the hero is currently being portrayed by Tyler Hoechlin on Superman & Lois, despite that show existing outside of the DCEU. However, the comment also comes amidst fan disappointment that the Warner Bros. SDCC panel didn't feature an appearance from Cavill announcing his return as Superman. Cavill's last appearance as Superman was in Zack Snyder's Justice League, and the actor's future as the character has been up in the air ever since.

With Cavill's failure to appear at SDCC, many fans are now concerned that the actor won't be returning to the role of Superman after all. While Johnson's comment is likely unrelated to Cavill's absence, it does suggest that the Black Adam star sees a future where his hero faces off against a brand new iteration of Superman, and not the one that many fans are familiar with. It remains to be seen what the future holds for Superman and Black Adam, but Johnson's comment is notably more nuanced than his usual statements regarding his upending of the power hierarchy in the DCEU.
