Shazam! star Zachary Levi (Shazam) recently voiced interest to fight the Rock’s Black Adam in the DCEU, which makes one wonder who would be the winner. Black Adam will introduce the titular character to the DCEU and will change, “the hierarchy of power in the DC Universe.” At least, that is what Dwayne Johnson continues to promise audiences. Though both Black Adam and Shazam! Fury of the Gods only recently completing principal photography, they will both be featured at this year’s DC FanDome 2021. The event will include our first official look at Black Adam and a behind-the-scenes look at Shazam 2.

Black Adam was actually teased in David Sandberg’s Shazam! when Billy Batson meets the wizard Shazam on the Rock of Eternity. In explaining what Billy has been chosen for, Shazam shows Batson the wizards’ last champion, Black Adam. Shazam confesses to Batson the wizards chose recklessly and that their champion was consumed by revenge. However, audiences do not learn what fate befell Black Adam, which will likely come to light in the film. Additionally, this film will likely feature Black Adam take on the Justice Society of America, which indicates the character will undoubtedly constitute a serious threat.

Therefore, a fight between Shazam and Black Adam would likely be a nail-biter. Though this DCEU fight will likely not take place anytime soon, there is a genuine possibility the two could face off in a future film. Moreover, if Black Adam is as powerful as the Rock continues to imply, Billy Batson might not stand a chance. This would be particularly true in a no holds barred match-up between the two characters. Without the help of Shazam’s Marvel Family, Shazam would likely lose to Black Adam; at least in the first couple of fights.

In terms of sheer power and ability, Black Adam and Shazam are evenly matched, technically. After all, both characters received their powers from the ancient wizard Shazam. In the comics, the key difference between the character’s powers are the gods from which they come from. While Shazam’s powers are based on Greco-Roman gods, Black Adam’s come from Egyptian gods. These powers include stamina, strength, wisdom, speed, and the power Zeus/Aton. Despite their powers being virtually the same, the Rock continues to claim Black Adam will be the most powerful character in the DC Universe.

While Black Adam doesn’t necessarily have more power than Shazam, Black Adam does have 5,000 years more experience than Billy Batson. This is definitely a critical factor in predicting the outcome of a fight. Power is one thing but knowing how to wield that power is often just as important, if not more so. This is an advantage often showcased in the comics where Billy Batson has repeatedly been beaten by Black Adam. Batson’s inexperience was apparent in Shazam! which nearly resulted in his defeat by Dr. Sivana.

If not for Shazam’s decision to create the Marvel family, it’s likely he would have been defeated by Dr. Sivana and the Seven Deadly Sins. If Shazam was unable to beat Dr. Sivana, it would seem thoroughly unlikely he would be able to take on Black Adam by himself. Consequently, the only chance Shazam may have against Black Adam is with the Marvel family by his side. Safe to say, Zachary Levi may wish he wouldn’t have been so vocal in his hope to see Shazam battle Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam in a future DCEU film.
