Spoilers for Black Adam #3 by DC Comics

Malik White might have only just gained the powers of Black Adam as the ruler of Kahndaq is dying, but the antihero's replacement is already proven to be a much better hero than the man who gave him his abilities. In Black Adam #3 by DC Comics, Malik calls "Shazam" to transfer some of his powers to his dying ancestor, as the quick-thinking saves Black Adam's life. In the process, White shows he's much better equipped to be a hero than Teth-Adam ever was.

In his new 12-issue series from DC Comics, Black Adam gained a mysterious disease that was killing him during a battle with a being claiming to be Darkseid. Realizing he didn't have much time left to live, Teth-Adam sought out a successor and replacement, as he passed on his incredible powers to Malik White, a descendent of his who had no idea about his connection to the former villain. After transferring his powers, Black Adam's condition worsened as he was on the brink of death - but Malik isn't about to let his ancestor die without at least trying to save him first.

In Black Adam #3 by Christopher Priest, Rafa Sandoval, Matt Herms, and Willie Schubert from DC Comics, Black Adam's body nearly dies. Malik White, whose job before gaining his powers was as a medical student, tries to keep him alive. Malik uses defibrillator paddles and calls "Shazam" to hit his ancestor with a powerful blast of energy in a brilliant, last-ditch effort to prevent Black Adam from flatlining. Thanks to his quick thinking, Black Adam, who was previously pronounced dead, still has a heartbeat, despite being in incredibly rough shape.

New Black Adam Saves Teth - Better Hero #3

In just a few short moments, Malik White proved that he is a worthy replacement to Black Adam and a better hero than the former Justice Leaguer ever was. Despite not understanding his powers, he figured out a solution to save Black Adam, never giving up hope that it was possible. While the issue ends with the twist that Black Adam was fighting a much-older Malik as Sargon of Akkad in the underworld as he was being saved, for now, White more than proved himself.

Black Adam's complicated legacy means that even with his heroic actions, his darkest moments will always be equally if not more, tied to him. However, his successor Malik White has a chance to make the role of Black Adam (or whatever name he chooses) a force of good and a better hero in the DC Universe. Of course, that's as long as Black Adam's replacement doesn't stray down the wrong path - like somehow becoming Sargon of Akkad - with his incredible powers.
