Black Adam producer Hiram Garcia shares how Pierce Brosnan and Noah Centineo bonded during the movie’s filming. Scheduled for release in July 2022, Black Adam is a DC Extended Universe film centering on the origin of the titular comic-book character. With Jaume Collet-Serra directing, the title role will be portrayed by Dwyane Johnson, who has been preparing to play the character since before 2017 and is credited as one of the film’s producers.

Black Adam’s teaser trailer released at DC Fandome in October, giving fans their first look at the on-screen portrayal of the character’s powers. The trailer showed Johnson’s anti-hero disintegrating his enemies with electricity and catching bullets in mid-air. In the comic-book source material, Black Adam is the superhero Shazam’s arch-nemesis, and the two have almost identical powers. Alongside the title character, other DC superheroes in the film include Atom Smasher and Doctor Fate, played by Noah Centineo and Pierce Brosnan, respectively.

Now, in an exclusive interview with SR, Black Adam producer Hiram Garcia describes what it was like to work with Brosnan, who is most famous for his iteration of James Bond. Garcia describes the star as the “OG” and “so smooth,” and says his presence elevated the the performances of his castmates. The producer also reveals that Brosnan spent time with his co-stars on weekends, getting to know them while playing golf. Check out Garcia’s full comments below:

Such an OG. And he's so smooth, he delivers some lines in the movie that I remember we were shooting on the day and it's just, nobody could deliver them smoother. As cool as... You're like, "That's James Bond. But now he's Dr. Fate." And it just elevated the entire cast. And to see our young cast around him and the way he connected and bonded with them, like Quintessa Swindell and Noah Centineo, to see them just hanging with Pierce Brosnan. And they all hung out on the weekends and they were golfing and, Mo Amer, and the way they just were bonding with him and the way he took them under his wing as such a senior statesman of the industry and to be around this young talent and see how seamlessly they got along. It's just a testament to him, what a good person he was, and to how well our cast got along. And I think that chemistry really starts to show on set when you watch how they performed together.

Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate in Black Adam

The interpersonal chemistry between a film’s cast can often be reflected on-screen, so DCEU fans will be glad to hear that the actors working on Black Adam managed to get along. Garcia’s comments will also reassure fans that Brosnan was the right pick for Doctor Fate, an important character whose powers are similar to that of MCU hero Doctor Strange. Along with Johnson, Brosnan’s filmmaking experience will have helped to shape the direction and success of a big-budget film like Black Adam

In previous statements about the upcoming film, Garcia has teased that a crossover between Wonder Woman and Black Adam would be inevitable, and that the introduction of Johnson’s superhero would shake up the power dynamics of the DCEU. The wider involvement of Black Adam in the DCEU, including whether he’ll get to test his strength against Superman, remains to be seen. However, it seems likely that the character will become one of the franchise's most important figures, and perhaps as an antagonist. Whether or not the film’s other superheroes, like Doctor Fate and Atom Smasher, also appear in the future will depend on their outcome at the end of Black Adam, and for that, fans will just have to wait and see.
