Black Adam will include the evil DC Comics team, Intergang. Former WWE superstar Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson first signed to play the titular ancient Egyptian anti-hero in 2014. At that time, there were plans for him to appear as a villain in David F. Sandberg's Shazam! movie, as well as an earlier version of Suicide Squad. But considering Johnson's commendable star power, DCEU traded off those plans in favor of a solo film set 5000 years after the wrongful imprisonment of the Kahndaq warrior. Although Johnson's attachment to the film is a very exciting prospect, Black Adam has still taken its time to get off the ground. But now, after several roadblocks, the film is finally making active progress. The film is already in its last week of filming, and it's slated to play in cinemas next July.

It's not only Johnson who is contributing the buzz around Black Adam. Rather the movie boasts a roster full of A-list performers, that has viewers anxiously awaiting the film. As confirmed earlier, the new movie will feature the cinematic debut of the Justice Society of America, with actors Noah Centineo, Aldis Hodge, Quintessa Swindell, and Pierce Brosnan playing its members Atom Smasher, Hawkman, Cyclone, and Doctor Fate respectively. Apart from them, The Rookie star Sarah Shahi is onboard as Adam's potential love interest Adrianna, and Mo Amer, Uli Latukefu, and James Cusati-Moyer have also been cast in undisclosed roles. Until now there was only one villain confirmed for the movie - a mysterious character played by Aladdin's Marwan Kenzari - but now it looks like Adam will going up against a bunch of more opponents.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Shahi announced that the Intergang, a villainous team from the DC Comics, would make an appearance in the movie. The actress was discussing the details of her turn as Adrianna in the film when she revealed that the enemy she would face off against is none other than Intergang. Shahi revealed that her character Adrianna is a "freedom fighter" and in Black Adam, she leads an opposition against the Intergang, which is a wicked and malevolent group. Read what she said below.

"Yes, I play a character named Adrianna, and she’s a freedom fighter that’s leading this big resistance against an evil, malicious group called Intergang."

Black Adam flying to the ground.

Created by Jack Kirby the Intergang is a massive Metropolis-based crime syndicate comprising of supervillains that first appeared in 1970's Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen #133. Throughout its different incarnations, Intergang was run by different crime lords, although its founder was the gangster Boss "Moxie" Mannheim. Primarily a threat to Superman, the criminal organization, which was armed with Apokoliptian weaponry and technology supplied by the evil New Gods of Apokolips, also had an encounter with Black Adam during an arc in the limited comic-book series 52. There, Intergang offered Adam Adrianna in return for safe haven. But Adam defeated the Intergang members and rescued Adrianna instead of taking up the proposal.

Intergang's inclusion in the Black Adam movie is very enthralling, as it finally lets out some plot details, which up till this point very fairly scarce. Since there is a proper storyline in the comics that concerns with the interaction of Adam, Adrianna and Intergang, the forthcoming movie might directly adapt it as an origin story for how Adam and Adrianna met. Shahi has already disclosed that her Adrianna is an activist who tries to take down Intergang, so it's possible that during their confrontation, the members of the criminal group abduct Adrianna and hold her hostage. They might then offer her to Adam, but the antihero would end up killing them and saving Adrianna, thereby beginning their romance. Of course, all this is speculation at this point, but it is certainly a possibility. For now, what remains to see is which members of Intergang would appear in Black Adam, and who would their boss be.
