Black Adam's origin story is teased in a brand new DCEU trailer promoting Dwayne Johnson's upcoming DC film. One of the long-awaited DC projects from Warner Bros. that is finally coming to theaters this year is Black Adam. Johnson was cast as the titular character in September 2014 before a solo film had even been green-lit. The idea to give Black Adam his own film didn't come until January 2017 and went through various development phases before it got to production. While he is best known as Shazam's arch-nemesis, the solo movie will depict Johnson's character as an anti-hero.

While it remains to be seen if Johnson and Zachary Levi's Shazam will ever come face-to-face, general moviegoers will get a proper introduction to Black Adam later this year. As the story focuses on how he becomes the DC legend, the project will also mark as the official DCEU introduction for the Justice Society of America. Throughout Black Adam, the Golden Age Heroes will serve as rivals to the anti-hero. While The CW's Stargirl has focused on the younger generation, the DCEU team will explore some of the original members, including Hawkman, Doctor Fate, Cyclone, and Atom Smasher.

As Warner Bros. has a packed line-up for their DC films this year, the studio revealed a new trailer that promotes Black Adam, The Flash, The Batman, and Aquaman 2. The teaser also provides a closer look at Black Adam's origin story, showing Johnson's character going through pain before getting his powers. Check out the new trailer below:

Like a lot of DC Comics characters, Black Adam has had his backstory retooled since his debut in 1945. Johnson has in past interviews talked about how Black Adam will explore the character's days as a slave of Khandaq before being granted godlike powers. What sets him on a path to become an anti-hero rather than a traditional super-villain is going after those who mistreated and abused him. While the latest promo gave a taste of Black Adam's darker days, it will be intriguing to see how much else is shown in future trailers.

So far, Warner Bros. is being very careful with what they are showing from Black Adam while still building up a lot of hype around it. Given how long they have been working on bringing the character to life, it definitely feels like this will be an essential installment for the DCEU's future. With someone of Johnson's caliber, the franchise will be getting a massive addition with Black Adam. Since Black Adam is also introducing the Justice Society, it wouldn't be shocking to see the Golden Age team go to more prominent places, too. As Black Adam gets closer to arriving in theaters, Warner Bros. will likely unveil at least one more trailer before then.
